Just heard a dozey bird ranting that there's only been 730 deaths on these islands and it's all a conspiracy.

She's too thick to realise that the islands were in total lockdown most of last year. The death toll would have been berserk numbers if it had just left to fester.

Most folk here are glad the Govt kept the figures so low.

Before I left, I heard another prat saying that doctors are being paid 500 to put Covid on death certificate.

It was a bar I rarely use, and won't go back .

There's a lady up here that runs a cafe that I've always known was a bit odd. A few months ago I talked to her when she was selling her cafe and it became obvious that she didn't believe that Covid was a 'thing' and it was the world's governments trying to control us all  She also said that she made people take off their masks inside the cafe because her dog was scared and attacked people with masks on (weird that it didn't attack me then!!

Last night I met a friend in a restaurant near me. We just went in for a couple of beers but the mad woman and her partner were there. MW started talking to my friend - mainly because he let her, I kinda moved away a bit!!

O.M.G - I really didn't think people were 'that' mental (even after reading bike forums for almost 20 years!!)

I did miss the first bit of the conversation but caught up when she was going on about chem trails and how you can tell they are created by governments because it isn't possible for two planes to cross and leave vapour in the shape of a kiss - the vapour wouldn't stay in shape if they passed that close. Despite saying she is a pilot (and a pilot of ships too ) she obviously doesn't understand perspective (I think that's the right word!)

But the best bit was the worms (round worm to be precise!) and micro robots that are in the chem trails. They float down and we ingest them and then the government controls us a bit more than just with a made up disease!

Next was HAARP - when it didn't show on Google she went into a lecture that Google stops you seeing things and so you have to use a different search engine (probably the one manned by conspiracy theorists!). HAARP is apparently a system/project that 'manages' the weather!!

O.M.G. - it was sooooooo hard not to laugh in her face. The owner of the resto kept laughing and smiling and I couldn't look at him as he made me laugh (he's known her longer so can get away with the laughter, I can't!); and I definitely couldn't look at my friend cos I just knew I fall about laughing!!!

There are nutters everywhere

These days it's hard to know what's true and what isn't, cloud seeding is an actual thing, the military do experiment with strange things that they try to weaponise, and there are plenty of ways that life will crush you if you let it, etc. But my standard answer to these people is that I'm willing to keep an open mind and maybe it's all true, but even if it is then it's not affecting me and I'm living my best life, now please excuse me, I'm off out on my yacht :D

That got me an accusation from my mate that the Freemasons have taken over my mind on behalf of the devil and I've traded my soul for a pot of gold :D
That last made me laugh

TBF, I do normally manage to keep a straight face with and just listen, not sure why I failed so badly the other night. But maybe I usually know that will happen but the other night I hadn't expected to see her!!

Penny has a close circle of pals here, but one has gone bonkers and they've ostracised her.
She's joined a weird sect on the island and started spouting some right shite. If I tell you they believe the royal family are all lizards and they feed off children kept in the cellars, you can imagine the Covid shit they come up with :obscene-birdiedoublered:

I had an interesting conversation with an anti vaxxer last week.

AV- I'm not putting that shit in my body
Jody- Why?
AV- You don't know what's in it
Jody- What's in a paracetamol, what's in Anadin, what's in a MacDonalds Burger?
AV- Pfff, I'm still not taking it
Jody- What is it that you think it will do to you, what are you worried about?
AV- I don't know
Jody- You don't know what you are afraid of??
AV- No answer

AV- No young people have died from covid
Jody- Yes they have
AV- Well yeah some, but not many
Jody- How many does it need to be before you'd take the vaccine?
AV- No Answer

AV- The vaccine doesn't work
Jody- What do you mean
AV- You still get the disease, you still transmit the disease
Jody- When did they say the vaccine would stop us getting the disease? I wasn't aware they said that.
Jody- 89% of the people in hospital in UK right now are not vaxxed
AV- I trust my immune system
Jody- I suspect the 89% did too, now they are in hospital using up resources that should be being used on other things
AV- No answer

Jody- You smoke though?
AV- Yeah
Jody- and you know that's bad for you?
AV- Yeah
Jody- You won't take the vaccine because you don't trust the government, but you're happy to pay loads of taxes on tabacco which is known to cause deadly diseases
AV- Yeah, but that's my choice
Jody- So you think people should be free to poison themselves if they want to?
AV- Well yeah
Jody- So why do you criticise people for taking the vaccine?
AV- No answer

I am anti Vax and I don’t care what you think.
I am absolutely sick and tired of seeing people that are anti Vax getting ridiculed and bullied on Facebook because of their choice.
YOU need to understand WE have good reason to feel this way and that by simply attacking us or belittling us WILL NOT change our minds. We will not be silenced.
I for one sure will never have another one again. No chance in hell, I don’t care what you say to try and convince me, I’ve fallen for that trap too many times before.
They are absolutely the worst brand of vacuum cleaner ever. It’s Henry all the way for me!

There's a fairly big antivax group in Bourg (English ex pats )

Now, I'd be more understanding (although would still disagree!) if I didn't know that not only do they regularly drink till incapable but also will (or at least have) smoke(d), snort(ed), shoot(shot) all sorts of various drugs that they buy from non regulated suppliers

WTAF - if you are willing to take various random recreational drugs, WTF won't you take a vaccine??!!

I now avoid those that I know are like that as I just don't want to talk about it!! LOL

Freedom is a strange thing.

People's freedom to refuse vaccination means that:-
  • I am probably going to be denied the advantages of herd immunity, and my grandchildren or great-grandchildren will miss out on the final eradication of Covid.
My hospital is likely to be overstretched and my heart attack will kill me rather than just bugger me up.
My taxes will probably go up to pay for the extra Covid patients in hospital, and for the unemployment/sickness benefits for those with long Covid.
But hey, that's freedom.

I reserve the freedom to believe they are stupid selfish twats.

My understanding is that current vaccines do not provide immunity to Covid, instead they dramatically reduce the risk of hospitalisation and death in the event of contracting Covid. For this reason there will not be herd immunity to Covid because this depends on vaccines providing immunity to disease.

I think (but haven't checked recently) that they reduce the spread significantly. If you catch Covid after vaccination you are less infectious for a shorter time, so the herd immunity thing works, just rather more slowly. It certainly won't eradicate Covid any time soon, but it will help.

Contrary to what you said above, vaccination will not eradicate Covid.

Vaccination has eradicated Smallpox. It may eradicate Covid, and hopefully improved vaccine development techniques may give us vaccines to eradicate other stuff too. Not in my lifetime, probably not in this century, but it is a good target to aim for.
