Have you still got the TL Nogs? I loved mine.
No. Her niece never let have it back! :D
I'll bet there's a (smashed up) part of Smix that wishes this were true !
Oh god yes!!

Sadly no. It suffered a terminal fate along with my shoulder :( :( :( I had hoped to rescue it, but there were bent forks and a cracked frame - with the frame issues, it wasn't worth the risk (at least, that's what I was told at the time :( ). Amazingly people also told me I shouldn't try and put it back on the road as it had caused the crash so I shouldn't risk it   The bike had nothing to do with the crash, except that I was riding it!!

I dream of getting one out here, but can't afford one for now. By the time I can I suspect they will have got too expensive again. Along with the fact that the French generally aren't kind to bikes :( :( A mate has one for sale in the UK (he's a TLs specialist, so it's had a good sorting out and would be amazing) but there's no way I could import one without serious engine restrictions, so no point :( :(

One day. I do still dream of getting one again

OH. MY. GOD

That is fucking AWESOME!! Gorgeous!!

I mean, it's not a TLs (to look at, I get that it started as one!) so I'd still need a TLs to live side by side with it!!

But damn, I'd bloody love that!! LOL

The dream is another 1997 early TLs, but they will have been ranted to hell here. But if I ever have the funds, I'll get a French one then save up and get my TLs specialist mate to check her and make her proper, then bring her back here :bblonde:

Is that front tyre on the right way round? It looks a bit odd to me.

It must be,because the other way around has a big hole to fit on the rim.

Arf! It just looks like it would push water into the middle rather than to the outside.

I'm inclined to agree, but do bear in mind that the bike is never meant to be actually ridden...

Recorded a phone driver this morning. Driver BEHIND, get so angry about me "touchin' the mota" (knocking on the window) that he gets out and does this. Classic of the genre. Phone driver reported. @roadcc @markandcharlie @MikeyCycling

No, it's the right way round. Fronts are biased towards braking, rears towards accelerating.

Ah. Righto. It just looks wrong from a water management point of view.

That's a shame. At least you healed - sounds like the TL didn't. A cracked frame is a pretty strong red flag, and I guess secondhand ones are like rocking horse sh1t and priced accordingly. And I suspect they will become a prime target for the modern day classic crowd in terms of pricing.

I had a '97 model (full fat engine) and loved it to bits but had to sell it when I was out of work for 15 months. This is mine at an Oulton Park track day:

Once I got a job again I started looking round and realised that an Aprilia Falco was an affordable (and slightly newer) equivalent to the TL. Similar frame, half-faired, v-twin (but 60 degree rather than 90 degree) but without the dodgy 'door-closer' rear damper. This is a recent photo of my 2008-registered Falco:

A friend of mine who moved to France took his Falco with him and got it registered there without too much fuss. He had to have it restricted, but that is easily done by placing a restrictor in the air intake/airbox. Better still, it's also very easily removed to restore all the lost horses. I still have the restrictor in my box of Falco spares. You'd be very welcome to borrow it...

Yeah, it was also the bent forks! Kinda made me wonder what I couldn't see that was damaged!! LOL I've healed, but the shoulder will never work properly - enough though, so that ok!!

I had the same type of TLs - 97 full fat and proper lush!! But red!! LOL

Pre brexit it would have been worth looking to import, but the costs are way higher now. And I know you can take the restrictor out but I'd be wary about the insurance, just in case?!

But, we'll see. One day when I start looking again, I'll have to see the difference between importing and getting one here :D :D

I hillclimbed mine a handful of times - without the steering damper :angelic-green:

Nice one - that Hill climb was pretty damn close to the sea, wasn't it? Good to see a TL being used the way it should be... :D

I've got a place in the Languedoc (close to Beziers) and I've registered an old UK car in France, but was also wanting to register my old (1988) VFR750 in France instead of ferrying it back and forth for MoT/Tax. Has it become significantly more difficult or expensive since Brexit to register a bike in France? I'm pretty sure the old VFR is under the silly 100bhp limit that France insists on keeping.

And what is bike insurance like in terms of cost in France - cheaper, about the same or more expensive than the UK? If it was cheaper I'd probably register it as a 'Vehicule de Collection' like I've done with the car. It's over 30 years old, so eligible.
