I fancied trying one for a few years so I bought this one in February as a winter hack & as something I can easily upgrade.
On paper my Street Triple out performs the SV in every department,yet I find myself out on the SV more often than the Street Triple.
I think the SV's are great bikes on country lanes,where something more powerful or heavier would be overkill.
I'm planning a trip on it down to mid Wales,Elan valley area in September,just exploring the back roads.

it is. To get up to where I live it's 21 hairpins and a couple of roundabouts Freaking awesome. I did it on the 390 when that was out here before the injuries. Absobloominglutely awesome

The whole area is incredible for bikes (I think, haven't been far on two wheels yet). Kungfoobob went over to Col d'Iseran on his trip, that's roughly an hour and a half of fun from me! There's Col de la Madeleine and Cormet du Roselend. TBF, just riding around generally on local roads, not the route nationale (although through the valley that's pretty twisty too ) is good fun

I've only ridden the Col d'Iseran and the Cormet du Roselend - when a friend lent me a bike a few years ago. Can't wait to be fit enough to do more. The whole Beaufort area needs exploring by bike!!

Next spring I'm hoping to go do the Route du Napoleon with a mate - partly cos I have friends near the end of it!!

I'm planning on revisitng places where I've been snowboarding,mountain biking or trekking,Morzine,Les Arcs,Chamonix Trois Valees,plus seeing a couple of mountain stages of the TDF.I've been wanting to go back on the motorcycle but never had enough holidays left

The TdF usually comes close to or through this area. Only got as close as Grenoble this year, so hopefully next year it'll be back

Likewise. I've never understood why riders as they get older they buy big heavy bikes. My 10R weighed around 180kgs wet,when I moved to my current Z1000,it came in at 220kgs.Like strapping two 20 kilo bags of cement to the bike.

I've managed to trim the Zed to 207kgs by junking a lot of the cat/eco bollix,but it starts to get spendy if I want to get well under 200kgs.

Why don't you just use your 350LC?

The SV650 is a good little hack bike that I ride on the local single track mud & gravel covered back lanes,I wouldn't want to subject a pristine 350LC to those conditions

Why don't you just use your 350LC?

I do, but it's not a bike I do big distances on any more. I'm seriously thinking of selling the 888 and possibly even the VFR, and an SV would fill the gap.

Exackerly. As you age you lose muscle mass and nothing works as well as it used to. So it's definitely not smart to start buying heavy motorbikes. It will only end badly, often with you underneath said heavy bike. The lighter the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Coming from the 690 Duke the 210kg GSXS feels like it weights as much as the Titanic when pushing it about. I used to tip the 690 over to probably 40 degrees to drain water out of nooks and crannies after washing it easy peasy. On the GSX I'd be calling for the Mrs to help lift the fecker off me if I did that.

I really liked my LCs for long journeys, they were very comfortable, fast enough and light, but they were thirsty for both petrol and oil, didn't matter in the 80s, but 25-30mpg would be expensive now.
I've ridden early SVs, they're alright, but I've never had a strong desire to buy one, the power delivery is a bit meh.
