Re: What have you done today thread?
Very little. I was sulking most of the day cos we've had thunderstorms and torrential rain - and I bottled riding my mates bike down to the valley to see his band play. Thought he'd rather I didn't go to watch than risk chucking his bike down the mountain!
Anyway - the positive bit today was that I finished a cross stitch project. I bought the kit 25+ years ago I think (could be close to 30!!!) and only started in when I was int he rehab place two years ago.
Because it's sepia its a challenge to do in the winter or under normal light, but I've got a decent sewing light now and so this spring, with the lack of good weather, I've spent a lot of time finishing it.
Half want to keep it, but no where to hand a picture like this and I did do it with the plan of giving it to a couple of friends who have been brilliant when I was in hospital/rehab Sooo - tomorrow, wash it, dry it and stretch it, then save up to sort out a frame

Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

Re: What have you done today thread?
The wife and I are at the opening day of the new local bike shop.
Above the bikes sales floor is a mez with all the kit on, it's quite narrow. She's looking at these three packs of neck tubes on a low shelf, taking up all the space. A chap waits patiently for her to move out of the way so he can get past. He looks at me and says 'Hi', I replay in a croaky broken voice 'hi ya', cos it's James Toseland... his bird was quite fit.

BALLCOCKS!
My shower cut out this morning.
On investigation I discovered the loft water tank that feeds the CH cylinder was empty, the float valve had failed. A trip to screwfix and £7.99 later it's all fixed.
I should be a plumber, I could have made a few hundred quid on that job, what with it being a sunday, etc..

I know this from the time I connected two pipes incorrectly, turned on the supply and it started raining outside (I back filled the tank).

Finally, effing finally, the sun is out so we're on the beach. I went to a BBQ yesterday and I had to wear a coat. A coat in SW France in late june ffs. But apparently the sun goes again on Friday so we've just booked a week in Spain.

Re: What have you done today thread?
When I was a student I rented a top floor flat (£3.50/week ). The plumbing was a bit eccentric and the box shaped hot water tank was over the bath and had an immersion heater and a ballcock in. The ballcock corroded and ceased to float. The overflow was into the bog cistern so the bog would flush hot water. The landlord's solution was to wire corks onto the ballcock. This worked fine for about 2 days then the corks got soaked....KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 1:31 pm BALLCOCKS!

Oh, and today I collected something I bought at an art show a couple of weeks ago and got tempted by something else...sadly they don't reduce the prices on the last day. I bought it anyway. Got to sell a kidney to pay for framing now.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Haven't actually done it yet but shortly will take the little Japanese hybrid shopping trolley for the second annual service. Just looked at the booking confirmation the the missus forwarded to me. Standard manufacturer service £459!!
Yumpin yiminy!...that's more than my (older, bigger, German, 4×4 car costs for a minor/routine service every other year (no brake fluid change etc etc). I'll be interested to read the invoice/worksheet.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I paid £330 for my Ovlov, it was a month before the warranty expired, so I wanted them to find problems. They didn't.
It's the last dealer service it's getting. I'll get an indy or do it myself going forwards.
I only paid £500 for the 'B' service on my SL which included the plugs (X6), all filters and the brake fluid changed. It was an indy, but one that could update the online digital service record with MB (MB wanted 900 for the same service).

Re: What have you done today thread?
I obviously get my current car serviced by the manufacturer, 'cause it's on an employee scheme (s'actually done at fleet HQ, but it looks just like a dealer). S'also free.
But yeah, before that it was Indy all the way. IME every specialist BMW, Merc, VAG, Volvo etc garage is run by a bunch of dealer trained mechanics who decided to part with with the OEM anyway. Manufacturers also aren't allowed to restrict access to the computer systems or parts.
ISTR it was ~£250 for oil, filters and general inspection on my 320D. Brake pads were ~£100 fitted. Arguably I could have done it myself, but I basically CBA with crawling aroudn under cars. Although TBF I went through so many brakes I think I was about 50/50 on doing it myself vs. the mechanic in the end.

Re: What have you done today thread?
LOL. They'd messed up on the loan car booking. After a while they said 'We've only got a Ford Ranger'.
'Wossat?' sez I.
'It's, erm, quite a large pick-up'
'Bonzer' sez I.
(It's a blinged up MS-RT and looks about the size of a small American state...but drives like a Frontera ).
Not a bad swap.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Oh yeah. The service includes brake fluid and A/C filter change. My car is the same - alternate services cost more.
+ (In the confusion it appears they didn't charge for the loan wagon).
