Hasn't been disclosed yet, news broke on the radio just an hour ago, DJs etc are audibly upset.

What a shocker! Absolutely loved his innovative show with all the characters, especially Mr Angry of Purley. Often listened to love songs on Sunday mornings too. He always came across as a real nice man and all his colleagues are verifying this with their tributes. RIP

I never really got the love for the bloke; I just found him annoying and switched off or over. Sorry to see him gone at a comparatively early age (i.e. younger than me) but it won't really put a crimp in my day.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:05 pmI must be the odd one out - I thought he had his head right up his arse ...Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 8:52 pm What a shocker! It's sad to hear of anyone going at that age.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:12 pmI never really got the love for the bloke; I just found him annoying and switched off or over. Re: Just Dead Celebrity Express Thread !
I thought Steve Wright was brilliant, his characters and the whole afternoon show was great back in the 90's, everyone on site would have it on.
The radio shows then were real entertainment, rather than the stuff I hear now on Radio 1 (although tbd I don't listen to it that much) shows like The Golden Hour, Our Tune, Steve Wright in the Afternoon, etc, were really good entertainment.

Yup. Radio 1 was king back then. There wasn't a workshop anywhere I knew that didn't have it blaring out!Potter wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 7:54 am I thought Steve Wright was brilliant, his characters and the whole afternoon show was great back in the 90's, everyone on site would have it on.

I suppose the DJ himself could annoy people (as we’re seeing here), but I was amused by Mr Angry, Laura’s First Love, Mick and Keef (“Cats- little furry fings; not cats like you’n me, mate!)Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 8:52 pm What a shocker! He was one of the last “entertaining” radio people IMO. Replaced by real rubbish now, whose chat consists of making themselves laugh at things that aren’t funny, pausing so you also realise that it was a joke…and playing crap music. I graduated from R1 years ago, now I’ve left 2 and am wandering around the airwaves like a fart in a trance. Homeless.

Re: Just Dead Celebrity Express Thread !
For me king of the DJs will always be John Peel; dry wit and a bewildering variety of styles and influences. I lost count of the amount of new music he opened my ears to, plus his Peel sessions were a treasure trove of up and coming bands. If you wanted Top 20, listen to any of the daytime radio programs. If you actually wanted to expand your musical horizons, John Peel was King. Andy Kershaw gets an honourable mention, as well.

Radio 6 works - as long as it isn't Lauren Laverne, Mary Anne Hobbs, or Cerys MatthewsWossname wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 10:30 am He was one of the last “entertaining” radio people IMO.
