Getting prepared for a full graveside funeral at 11am. Weather is holding off at the moment, need to pack some wet wipes as I will need to clean my hands after throwing the earth into the grave in the committal. Going to the wake to bless the food, share the eulogy and meet more of the family.

Yup. It's supposed to look like something that's been on a beach for a long time. I suspect it's also rusting where it shouldn't. There are a few cracks appearing in the cave-like rendering inside. Classic architect design - looks interesting, doesn't quite work properly. I'd post an image but struggling to find one that will hot link.

Think they've struggled with the pandemic. The place isn't as 'cheffy' as it was and they've cut their opening times etc.

I only googled the place (can't see the photo in the post) cos I spent all my summers as a kid in Littlehampton - but on the west side of the river (my dad was a founding member of the Arun Yacht Club, so we were there every summer and some other non summer holidays!! LOL)

But damn - that is one fugly building!!! I haven't looked for the architects other stuff because that has proper put me off!!

I like LA. It's a bit tatty in places but is/was picking up. It has the typical problems of English seaside resorts - massive houses that were once small hotel/B&B type places that only make sense as flats/apartments now. Some of them looked like real pits but they're gradually coming up. Lots of work for trades like plasterers etc.

The shopping area is a bit vape shops/tattoo parlours/'Spoons but could be nice and they seem to be doing a bit of up-tarting and improving things for pedestrians etc.

TBF, I haven't been back there in over 25 years. I did do a quick stop at the sailing club about 10 years ago, but didn't go to the town. I always quite liked it though, despite it's tattiness!!

If I get back that way and can deal with the A27 (100% agree on your description!) I'll try and get over to have another look

It's a while since I used the A34 and it's probably changed a bit since I worked at a place next to it. Does it have really badly marked/arranged roundabouts that seem to be every mile like the A27 on the Chichester stretch?

It's a while since I used the A34 and it's probably changed a bit since I worked at a place next to it. Does it have really badly marked/arranged roundabouts that seem to be every mile like the A27 on the Chichester stretch?

A34's claims to fame (on the Berks/Oxon stretch) are ridiculously short slip roads. Beware the 'Ilsleys' junction northbound in particular. Usually a crash every few days.

A27 for the win, the Eastbourne to Lewes stretch is a roadworks hell at the moment, the best bit is that it's for a cycle lane that the cars won't ever use and I suspect me and about 4 other cyclists will use on a regular commuting basis. It has to be at least £10 million for about 5 cyclists.........
