My son is married to an American girl and I was talking to her parents about it. They get basic coverage through work but top up the insurance to the tune of $25k pa. Even then each claim brings massive stress as claims are denied and appealed. A simple blood test can be $2k and waiting times can be a lot longer than we’d imagine.
I’m sure there’s better models than the NHS but they’re not in the US.
I'm classified as 100% disabled. I pay nothing for health care, I have no co=pay & prescriptions are free. My only out of pocket expense is the gas to drive to the hospital etc & I could even claim the cost of that back on my taxes (altho I don't, because last year my income tax bill was $0)
I can also get free dental treatment, but the only places that offer that are fucking butchers, so I pay $60/month for private dental insurance.
With that said, it took me six fucking years to get approved for health insurance... & it happened under Trump.
