Contracts innit.
Leaving the wind on and paying the power station to go on hot standby would cost more. And may not even be possible tecnically. You need spinning reserve in case the wind dies down, but turbines spinning means power that has to go somewhere.
Maybe the addition of storage capacity and hydrogen manufacture could mop up some of the excess?
It's going to take a while to develop a better balanced system now most of the big base load stuff has gone though.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

More flexible pricing would also help, make electricity dirt cheap for locals only.
That would encourage people to either build things which use it, or more likely build storage facilities and power lines to gain access to that sweet sweet cheap leccy.
It would mean people in Scotland paying way less for electricity than people in Southern England, which wouldn't go down well.

One of the local gripes in Cornwall is that we get wind turbines on every hill, and solar farms too. Most of that power is exported to England. Cheap local power would go down a treat here.

It's funny how the videos doing the rounds only show the copper giving the suspect a hoof in the nugget, not the actions of said miscreant that caused the female plod to get a broken schnozzer.
I actually think giving a scumbag a good hoofing should be mandatory. Teach the fuckers a lesson.
No actually sure Plod should be hoofing folk in the head like that, whatever his crimes.
It does seem excessive... The only irritation is that we NEVER see what happened in the 1min before hand... It may seem excessive now, but not at the time/circumstance when it first came about.
However, the copper/coppers are in a world of shit now for sure.

Two police officers are still under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) watchdog after GMP conducted its own inquiry.
What I don't like about this is the public have decided based on 5 social media videos.
We haven't seen the stuff from hundreds of cameras at the airport.

And we don't need to see them either.
No matter the offence there can be no justifiable reason at all for a copper to kick someone in the head whist they're already face down on the ground.
