£130!

What's it made from, triple refined angel's ear wax?

I presume that's a lifetime supply?

Or do Harley insist on you using their very own Milwaukee-mined, blended and blessed lubricants? I can't imagine that the specification is particularly special, I mean what's peak revs on an H-D?

It's not a unit construction engine, I imagine there'll be one type of oil for the engine, one for the gearbox and another for the clutch.

So not as easy or as cheap as just buying 4l of 10W40 Semisynth.

I wish.
No they don't but any other brand is coming out at the same cost give or take

4 qts in one hole, 1 qt in another and 2 qts in another

Same oil (20w50) for engine and trans, so why they are separate chambers god knows, different oil for the primary, I could've knocked off 40 quid by not going for the synthetic stuff, but meh

I've started using Smith and Allan oils, they're an independent refiner/blender and their prices are substantially lower than those of the widely-advertised competition. They have a bewildering variety of lubricants covering all manner of applications, but this is a link to their motorcycle offerings:

Hang on a minute, this is a tractor engine, not some hyper car. Get yourself down to the local farmers market, they'll have what you need for dead cheap.

Hadn't seen those; I've used oils from this group https://www.westwayoils.co.uk/

Any of those would be fine for a Harley engine - it's not as if they're tuned to the nuts or built to high tolerances.

Absolutely - all the old jokes about Harley-Ferguson and Massey-Davidson spring to mind...

I'm sure that the usage I'm going to put my bikes to do not need mega-expensive branded oils. I'm also fairly sure that the stuff that Smith & Allan sell will be equivalent to the more expensive branded options. The only bike that I'll use pukka branded stuff for is the Duke 690, as that has a tiny sump capacity and works its oil hard; everything else will get S & A...

Bit unfair on the later HD engines like the Milwaukee-Eight. Sure it's not hugely stressed but it's not exactly a ditch pump either.

It's a Harley engine, nothing about them are high tech.

Thank god.
I want an engine that I can strip in my garage with basic tools, not that I'll ever need to unless I fancy dropping in a new cam (actually on the cards) or going big bore 131ci.

It's got more moving parts than my 4 cylinder Kawasaki, seems a bit over complicated to me.

Well that was 10 minute job that turned into 4 hours, bastard design monkeys making me take the tank off just to plug stuff in beside it.
Hey ho, shifter peg, grip and cruise control fitted

Hopefully this is just a knackered battery rather than anything else like the starter shitting itself

Sounds like a starter solenoid having a fit... due to a low battery.
