I have been with my bank for 60 years. Yes, they are shite at some things, but I know what they are shite at and I work around it.

Ok, well then maybe don’t have a pop at me on the difference between socialism and democracy when you can only back it up with the intelligence of a kid in the 3rd year at school.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 1:34 pmLet me guess - this was your specialist subject when you studied English History at Uni, in fact it was probably the subject of your thesis. I remember studying the Civil War in the 3rd or 4th year at Grammar School and found it very interesting, but the detailed memory of it has long gone. On one side there was the entrenched, totally self-serving monarchy and assorted hangers-on (the Cavaliers) and against them was Oliver Cromwell and the Roundheads who wished to assert the primacy of Parliament in ruling the country versus the whims of Royalty and patronage. There were a series of battles and skirmishes that lasted the best part of ten years, often divided into 3 separate Civil Wars. The Roundheads (Parliamentarians) won the struggle, had Charles I beheaded and fully asserted the primacy of Parliament, clipping the wings of the Monarchy forever.Potter wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 1:11 pmOk, what’s your thoughts on the the mixed philosophies just before, during and post English civil war and why do you think it’s important today to recognise what they were trying to achieve?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 12:53 pm You really can't help yourself, can you? There always has to be some snidey put down in any of your replies. Do you have to do this stuff to make yourself feel better? I'm genuinely interested...
Why is it important today? Because democracy.

It's a shame, we could do with more opinions from random uninvolved celebrities, we get enough from the general public.

Turned out to be a good decision, we have lawyers in the family but I cream them in terms of earnings, to be fair though they're just normal lawyers, not Ironside or defending OJ or anything high profile.
I could write a masters paper on 17th century England though, so he was always going to be fucked trying to argue it with me

Pah, I've just been out and bought £500 worth of bearings that I don't really need and I'm putting them into little bags in the garage, then I'll do a little brag about it whilst at the same time whining about being poor and how people on the internet paid their mortgage off and I didn't listen to them

Bad inventory control that fella, buying up stock to sit on shelves when you're not using them.
You could have bought a full bitcoin for about that and then sold it for £45k a few years later.

Re: Debanking
This is all fine. Probably, could've, didn't, it doesn't matter to me.
But you're no more qualified to lecture us on the civil war than mango is. Or law for that matter.
And this is one of the problems with modern day silly politics. You have bellends like Farage and Johnson presenting themselves as champions of the people and it's lapped up. You -could- write a paper on the similarities with the English Civil War, I'm sure it would be eloquently presented and score highly. I'd like to read it. With a few tweaks it would also make for some thought provoking opinion-piece commentary by one of the Telegraph hacks.
But this is still basically all about Farage being a whiny pussy.

If you don't want to be patronised then don't have a go at me on a subject where you're way out of your depth, like I said I don't argue engineering with Dazzle because he'd do it to me, or downhill MTBs with Weeksy for that matter.

He is.
But I also think it raises interesting points about how free you think you are and how you're actually not - this is basically what caused the English civil war.
