Don't know and wouldn't be able to verify without stripping one down. There is a metal mesh to stop large rocks, small rodents etc further down the intakes which would lead me to think they have a genuine function. And having the scoops where they are would give good access to an under tank air box.

Pretend on my gen 2. They have a fuse box behind one and aux connectors behind the other.

I guess Yamaha had to use the scoops in the tank for real, as the whole front end has been lowered by around 30mm on the Gen 3 if what I read is correct, and I doubt that would leave any space for air inlets.

Well, that's the SP bought. The Trident goes tomorrow. Will be sad to see it go. Wish it was a different time of year so I could get one last blast on it. Just need to find a gap in the weather to bring the SP home.

They don't have a driver this week apparently. Also, the young sales chap who I dealt with originally has left. Off to be a prison officer apparently. Must admit, he didn't fill me with any confidence after the demo ride balls up and the few specs he got wrong when telling me about the bike. Anyway, I'll see how it plays out over the next couple of days.
