How many times did the beemer poke you with it's mirror/levers etc?

There's two Beemers in that pic (and an Enfield), the topbox on the other poked me more than the Big Red Bus.

Its a good deal cleaner than my 750 Slingshot as well.
Mind, I used to go to work on that for a while, through winter and so on so its to be expected.

I've just spoken to a very nice man called Ryan. Who runs Shocktech, which happens to be about 300m as the crow flies from my place of work.

They get good reviews online, he's quoting £150 for a full rebuild, £85 for a pair of compression adjusters and £90 for springs to suit my weight.

I'm going to take them round for him to have a look at tomorrow lunchtime, if I remember to put them in the car boot.

I forgot the forks yesterday, d'oh!

So I've just taken them in now.

He seemed quite happy about removing the compression adjusters and finding something that would fit. They're being rebuilt to my weight or there abouts. Seems a professional setup, couple of CRF's on the ramps being done.

Hopefully when they're done they won't bottom out and lock the front wheel under braking any more :)

You're either braking very hard or you're a fat barstard.

You know when you're 'on it' and you're braking extra hard for the fast approaching roundabout, then hit the ripples on the approach... that's when it chirps. Done it a few times.

I read some comments about them being a bit underdamped from the factory.... so they're being setup for a rider 15.5 stone (I'm hoping to lose some weight to get there).

Yes I'm a fat bastard, but it's all quite well spread out as I'm 6'3".

TBH that sounds pretty much how I remember them being, and I probably weighed 10 stone when I last rode one (I now weigh 14 stone).
Check the disc bobbins for wear, if there's any appreciable play in them the brakes can feel very grabby, I had a Slingshot 750K do this and the brakes were horrible.

It's got new discs and calipers on it. I'm sure it's hitting the bump stops when it locks.

Forks are back in the bike.

The fella reckoned you couldn't get the compression adjusters (and I think he might be right, my googlefu came up with nothing) and he couldn't free it off, ho hum.

He also said he couldn't get springs for it. He'd have to import some from the US and they'd be on a four week lead time and £150.

So he's adjusted the preload and fiddled with the airgap to try and make up for it. It's got 8kg springs in it and it needs 10kg. All in with new seals, etc.. £150. I might swap the springs myself if I find any.

While I had the lowers off I had a look at the clutch slave, I suspected it was leaking. It was, the inside of the sprocket cover was coated in the stuff.

I took the slave off and waggled the piston out, there was some corrosion in the bore so polished the whole thing out with 800 grit wet and dry and the polishing mop on the Dremel. I didn't replace the seal as it looked ok, but will if it still leaks.

Took forever to bleed the feckkin' thing.

I'll see if it's leaked tomogga.

Soz, didn't take any pics.

I assumed that springs were pretty generic. They have a length, a diameter and a rate. I find it had to believe nothing else uses the same springs.

When K-Tech did my Blade many years ago they used springs for a CBR600RR.

Anyway, it's all back together, no sign of the clutch slave leaking, but we'll wait and see.

Its fairly straightforward to get new springs custon made TBF, I'd help you out of it wasn't for this dashed idleness.

Catchphrase thief!

Though to be fair I stole it along with the setting things on fire for 500 quid from the late great Mr Rossiter, advertising exec and Ducati lover, sorely missed.

Something else I found interesting. The clutch slave cylinder seal. It's not in the body of the clutch slave like it is on brake callipers. The seal is on the piston itself.

Told you it was interesting.

Yup.

Not ridden it this year. Needs an MOT, but never seem to get round to it. Probably because the Beemer took the mantle of newest toy.

Last week put the battery on charge and then ran it up to temp.

A few days later I passed the garage and there was a strong smell of petrol.

Gave the GSXR a wobble and no sloshing. Tank was dry.

The carpet didn't feel wet, but stank of fuel.

I think that the vacuum fuel tap got stuck in the open position and one of the needle valves was stuck open a bit.

Anyways, had the tank off and the tap to bits. The vacuum bit seems to be working now.

Syphoned some fuel out of the Enfield using an old washing machine cold water pipe and it seems ok for now.

I check if there's still any fuel in the tank tomorrow :)
