Wife is still working so nothing really planned. We're looking at doing a tour of the Canadian Rockies but that won't be till next year. In the meantime she's given me a list of jobs to do around the house...Potter wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 11:27 amCongratulations on your retirementDruid wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 11:18 am I have done nothing. Congratulations!
I'm sitting on toilet trying not to puke. That was a very very hard indoor cycle race.
Average HR for 40 mins, 170bpm, maximum 182

Re: What have you done today thread?
Daily trip to Screwfix.
Bought the guttering for the back of the cabin. They smirked as they slid the 3m lengths across the counter, having seen the car I arrived in.
Not so smirky when I got to the car, whipped out my measure and cut them to the required lengths with my battery Makita saw.
(Bought a pair of Scruff's work pants while I was there...got to look the part eh? ).

Rolling around on a motorbike, running as many errands as I could to make myself feel I was doing something useful.
The roads in South Cheshire - & especially North Shropshire - were dry & grippy today. And also largely deserted & free of mud etc.
A good day.

Spent a couple of hours freezing slowly to death in the deceptive sunshine, deciding where to fit my 'dash cams' on the KTM.
Finally decided, spent 10 mins attaching them, and will finish off attaching the wiring, and adjusting the viewing angles tomorrow. Did I mention it was bastard freezing?

No one wants to fit my worktops... they just want to do full kitchens (I've done my own). So fuck it, I'll fit them myself.MyLittleStudPony wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 7:34 pm Re. quotes and trades, goons, toolies etc, if you have a house which looks nice, you pay the nice-house-owner rate.

After trying to cut a straight line and failing at every attempt with my jigsaw, I bought a circular saw last week. It's so much easier cutting the facia panels!Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 7:43 pmThe nice thing about jobs like that is, at the end, you can stand back and admire..........KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 7:39 pmNo one wants to fit my worktops... they just want to do full kitchens (I've done my own). Re: What have you done today thread?
If you have to join sections of worktop, a router thingy cuts the groove that you put the clamps in that squeeze the sections together. Very handy....every time you fit a kitchen.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 7:46 pmAfter trying to cut a straight line and failing at every attempt with my jigsaw, I bought a circular saw last week. The worktop I just removed had the clamps, it was also cut in such a way that the curved edges met perfectly.Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:55 pmIf you have to join sections of worktop, a router thingy cuts the groove that you put the clamps in that squeeze the sections together. The Ikea worktop is square. All the documentation and youtube guides for the ikea stuff just say butt it up with a bit of silicone and job jobbed!
I've got some plates to hold it together too.

Re: What have you done today thread?
They all come square, then you use a jig to make it curvy and perfectly fitting. It's easy to do but you will spend hours mentally flipping and rotating pieces to make sure it's the right cut happening.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:02 pmThe worktop I just removed had the clamps, it was also cut in such a way that the curved edges met perfectly.Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:55 pmIf you have to join sections of worktop, a router thingy cuts the groove that you put the clamps in that squeeze the sections together. Re: What have you done today thread?
Looked at my worktops this am. They have the curve thing. It looks like they've been cut with a scalpel! The edges are incredibly neat the joins are almost invisible. What do they cut them with? Not sure I could get them that neat with a jig-saw, even with a jig and a fine toothed blade.
