Sounds like you're on the right bike, but you're now a year in, is this a keeper or have you still got a roving eye?
I have a rare fleeting thought of a 690SMC-R but that's honestly the only bike i've considered in the last year. That doesn't usually last long because i know it's the wrong bike, as to keeper... well, that's a question. I'd like the up and down blipper if i were being picky, which i think will come on the 2021-22 assuming they make a new XSR as they've done with the MT09. But it would give me VERY little and in some ways i'd lose out because i'd have to get the forks done on that one too along with swapping the shock over to it... It's a bit of faff.
So, yeah.... i'm certainly not intending on swapping it. There's no motorbikes on my Ebay list, which is rare in my world and i don't spend time browsing ebay.
It's an alien concept for me to keep a bike though and i think the swapping thing comes down to habit as much as need or want. So i really need to break that habit and not see the bike as a short time purchase but as 'my bike'

Pictures Weeksy all blacked up like Papa Lazarou staring at the XSR, "Give me your key, you're my my bike now"

With Mrs Weeksy away for a few days i've had plenty of plans in a riding context. Today was the XSR900s turn to play out.
The loose plan was "head to a beach"
I set off about 9am and headed over towards Hungerford and then down towards Salisbury... I then went about 5 different ways before eventually i ended up in Poole... What a mistake that was. Poole harbour area was closed to any transport and the only sodding car-park i could find was card only.
So i went off towards the signs for 'beaches'. It got a little better there, but not so much... The beach was OK, but the cafes were full and the pub didn't exist, so the plan of a nice pub lunch by the seaside had gone out of the window.
Sadly it didn't get better from there as the traffic was horrific ! I mean properly yukky and i regretted a good 90 minutes of this ride. Once i eventually got back to the A338 towards Marlborough thinks got a little better, but still far from wonderful. But a bit of a change in mind-set meant i took it as a cruise instead of taking it as a blast and just settled in at traffic speeds more than trackday speeds.
Overall i enjoyed the day out, the bike was perfect although it did show me that 2+ hours is more than enough for me without a decent break. But the bike didn't care, not in the slightest

it just powered on beautifully. The power on it is absolutely addictive, warrrrrrrr, warrrrrrr as it goes through the box with that noise the triple engine/exhaust makes.... Nice..

I'm in Poole at the moment, well Lulworth right this second but staying in Poole.
Yesterday evening we went to Canford cliffs and it was really nice bit of beach. Earlier we went to Bournemouth but that was heaving.

That’s exactly the same mental switch that I came to a recently, sometimes it’s about the ‘ride’ rather than the ‘riding’.
To many this will be common sense, but after years of riding to get a buzz from how I can extract the best from me and the bike, to simply enjoying the ride for all the other reasons.
But a good blast now and then in the right circumstances is always welcome.

Well it's 1 year tomorrow since i bought the XSR900. Yeah, doesn't time fly.
In that time period it's had a few bits fitted, a few bits removed and a few bits have been fitted and then removed straight away. It's been through 3 different exhausts. Whilst i may not have used it millions of miles, i've clocked up 1500 or so on the XSR900 and they've all been excellent. The power still excites me, the performance still blows me away and i still love how it looks.
Me and the beast will head out for a play today to celebrate i think. I'll even try to get a few decent pics out in the wild.
The only thing missing really is some track action, but circumstances with Covid and life have conspired against us in that context, so it's only done 2 Silverstone GP days and 1 day at Pembrey. However i've got 2 days at PEmbrey confirmed for this year along with being on the reserve list for 2 Silverstone days as well, hopefully i'll get out for at least 1 of those.

As an anniversary ride for the XSR we went over to Henley for ice cream. Sadly the ice cream man doesnt park there any more.
So headed back and sitting in the market Square in Wallingford having a Costa.
There's a few nice roads over this way and the XSR loves them. Just glorious 80-90 sweepers on a nice throttle then pinning it out before slowing again. Repeat as necessary.
To quote Potter
is it a keeper
Why yes, I do believe it is

It is a nice bike.
I'm heading out on mine in a bit and hopefully tomorrow evening out to Maldon for a pint by the estuary. Will try and get a pic.

Made a few phone calls and emails yesterday and the XSR900 is booked in for a service on the 15th July. Ended up at Blade Swindon which is where i bought it from. I was going to use Premier Bikes KTM but after an email disucssion regarding any recalls and being able to update on the Yamaha system, decided it was better to use the Yamaha dealer for this occasion at least.

You know those days when everything just flows, the bike is perfect, the roads are perfect and the world just whizzes by as you nail every corner..
Yeah, that wasn't today LOL. With the rain we've had, the roads were garbage, they were covered in gravel/mess, a few of the nicer roads had been resurfaced and covered with top-coat only.... Nothing flowed, nothing was perfect and apart from a nice smooth bike, it was complete dog-shit lol.
Some days you're the tortoise, some days you're the hare.... today i was a slug.

Exactly like parts of my last ride out. As I said I think the best thing about it now is I recognise it and take it for what it is, in the past I used to try and force it which was never a good option.
With the rain/family trips I've not ridden anywhere near as much as I'd like. Didn't make it to Maldon last week, but hoping to get out somewhere tonight. Just trying to think of a 'where' I can go alone and worth seeing, finding this change of time of day in when I go out oddly unsettling and I don't know why!

Yeah i'm not going to lose sleep over it that's for sure... I'm sure next time out me and it will find out happy place.
One interesting turn though is that on the 15th when mine is in for servicing, i've got 2 hours booked on the 890R.... no reason other than "why not" really.
