Belens are a tradition here where villages create huge models of the islands famous bits. Biggest is this one in Yaiza. 260m3
The detail is stunning and we were trying to match each bit to a part of the island.
Just as we'd done there was a total blackout. We thought it was local, but the whole island was down for 10 minutes. By 'ell, it was dark

Buried about 15m of water pipe. That might stop it freezing again. I pretty sure the previous owners didn't bury it because of what passes for soil, glacial moraine I think. Lovely stuff in a geography, less nice to dig through with hand tools.

Dropped by American Tire this morning for a (free) tire rotation. They couldn't use the in-floor lifts on the ST & used 4 jacks. Even then they had to faff about getting their rubber blocks to fit the jack points.
They got it done without buggering up the pinch welds & running board brackets etc.
Drove over to the nearest donut shop & went back with a box a 12. For their reaction you'd think I offered to make a car payment for them.
Apparently not enough people drop off a box of donuts at tire stores or workshops etc where they get mechanical stuff sorted...

Re: What have you done today thread?
I've been out for coffee and since Ive been back I've made bakewell tarts (with extra pastry for the freezer), some empty pastry cases to put lemon curd into, and the dough for Stollen!
I made the marzipan for the stollen the other day but have now realised that I am supposed to make an almond paste as well - so have to go to the shop, that doesn't open till 16:00 to get some more butter FFS!!
Soooo, might do some chinese food this afternoon, but I have physio later, so will probably just sort out some washing, take out some rubbish and chill out a bit!!

In like Flint! I wonder how many remember that?
Speaking of honey, what I've done today is marinade some chicken thighs for tonight...which involves honey, fresh lime juice, chopped - spring onions, lime grass, garlic, red chilli's and grated ginger.
Although the membrillo suggestion was a joke I reckon quince jam would be At a guess though, if you hadn't got apricot jam you may not have any quince either.

Re: What have you done today thread?
On my commute home I passed a Sheffield Council Gritter on the Parkway, he was doing 3mph and I was doing 4mph, so I got a good look.
The local councils near me seem to like to 'name' the gritters and the one I passed had a sticker on the door... Grit Expectations.

I think quite a few councils do, some of them let you track where they've been and where they are in real time, or so I've been told.
