I'm reasonably sure I have a virus, but I'm not "ill" . I'm bloody knackered for no reason and had some headaches, but that's it. But that's how I've felt with viruses in the past. And, I've been doing two days of transfers each week to a bus full (or half full!) of tourists that are often coughing and spluttering behind me
But, I'm not ill, so can't stay home. I have stopped "bisous-ing" colleagues but TBF, by the time I feel like this I suspect the contagious time has passed !!
Hey ho
Unless you are a coeliac, why are you going gluten free?Count Steer wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 7:58 amSide effect of going gluten-free? Just nipping into town in t-shirt, shorts and flip flops?
Or out with the crazy boys on Sunday in full protection?

None of the scooter folk wear anything apart from helmets. Often with straps undone.

At Portimao I'm riding like a loon at 175 every lap without a worry in the world.
It’s a hotly debated topic because like so many allergies and intolerances , they are self diagnosed. It obviously doesn’t make them not exist. But it is nowhere near the levels that fashion currently dictates.Count Steer wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 9:22 amMaybe:Mr Moofo wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 9:09 amUnless you are a coeliac, why are you going gluten free?Count Steer wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 7:58 am

'Despite growing numbers of people reporting such symptoms, gluten intolerance remains hotly debated in terms of its causes and management. Currently, the only recommended approach is to adopt a gluten-free diet.'
Unless you're Matt Damon of course. He's plugging it as a weight-loss diet. (You tend to lose water in the early stages so, yes, your weight can go down but....).

Yes, well, if even the experts don't agree, what's a person to do apart from giving gluten-free a go? (Or go through the tedious stages of an exclusion diet). If it works for them then, it works for them.Mr Moofo wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 11:01 amIt’s a hotly debated topic because like so many allergies and intolerances , they are self diagnosed. And yes, if you are coeliac you have to exclude it. It’s an auto immune disease not an allergy
Hi protein is truly bollocks. It was an American fad about 10 years ago when they produced hi protein Mars bars and Snickers amongst other laughable offerings. In the Western world very few people need more protein- esp when they are fat and American. But hey, it’s added value!Count Steer wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 11:14 amYes, well, if even the experts don't agree, what's a person to do apart from giving gluten-free a go? Inevitably there's a bit of 'band-waggoning' and the food industry is only too happy to satis£y demand. (See also high protein 'diet' - 'high protein' doughnut anyone?).
Oh we haven't forgotten, we just drink spirits with no carbs, and no sugar laden mixers either.Mr Moofo wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 11:28 am Then there is low carb - when folks forget alcohol is a carbs …
Coeliac. Bloody love Gluten. Gregggs sausage rolls. Cakes. custard slices, proper bread. Lots of nice beer rather than IPA's and shit Lagers. I know what part of it is (hormone that the french won't prescribe because it's a "male hormone" FFS) but this last week has been a lot worse.Felix wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 8:36 pmWhen i went to the doctors for always feeling knackered after a few tests it turned out i have a B12 deficiency and panacea anemia.Noggin wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 6:28 pm Currently having this debate with myself.

Meat substitutes is another great one - looks like meat, tastes like meat, and it is seriously the most processed food you will ever had.
Just like exclusion diets, it you want to be vegetarian or vegan look at it as a lifestyle change - not as a reason to eat Impossible Burgers.
Then there is low carb - when folks forget alcohol is a carbs …
You're lucky - a few of the coeliacs I know have it come back up rather than go through fast!!Felix wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 11:43 am

I dont see my brother but my sister tells me that is sometimes how he is but a lot of gut pain also. I really could go out and scoff a steak bake but it would have to be a Friday night and a stay at home weekendNoggin wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:10 pm
