It sounds like the first thing is the migrants to Rwanda scheme is axed.

What a great election result, for the young, for inclusion, the environment and the future.

Apart from cancelling Rwanda I can't see much difference between the policies, Labour say they will stop the boats but no indication how. I'll be impressed if they do sort out the problem but I'm expecting them to make it worse.

And that's what kicked of the diacetyl brouhaha, mostly factory workers getting popcorn lung, rather than putting measures in place at the work place it was heavily restricted for consumer products

TBF the first and most effective rung on any HSE type risk reduction ladder stuff is "remove" innit.

So if there are alternatives to product X the first port of call is always gonna be "do we actually need to use product X?", right? I have no idea what Diacetyl even is, or where it's used in consumer products BTW, but removing it from products removes it from factories and is therefore the best possible solution for the factory workers.

Yeah, but makes life awfully boring.
FYI, the clue as to it's use is in the name of the disease it causes, it gives food / other stuff a lovely buttery taste, so was most commonly used in microwave popcorn

Diacetyl is a componant of butter - and hence was used in the flavour industry. But at high concentrations (1000x what you would find in popcorn) caused popcorn lung.
I spend 4 year sitting next to a plant making acetaldhyde - we were really worried the flash point and explosion risk.
But that do was banned as carcinogenic. It used to go into about every fruit soft drink in the world.

There's a difference between what people choose to do themselves and what they have to do at work though.

If someone said "you have to smoke 60 a day to work here" I'd probably complain That doesn't mean I want to ban smoking necessarily.

It's just a different situation and a different argument.

A nerd comments: in some ways, despite the imposition of having to do them, I found them to be a useful mental 'pause', where I could work through the planned activities, identifying every opportunity for it to go wrong, etc.
