The F350 Thread
Re: The F350 Thread
I sat behind what I think was an old F350 at the lights a couple of days ago, feck me it was huge on our small road
Mind you it was diahoreea brown with a lot of 'patina' so it didn't look anywhere near as good as yours

More gelcoat experimentation. Forgot to get a pic after I ground out the cracks & before I spread the goop...
The bigger dings are getting FG first which I why I didn't touch them at this time.

Re: The F350 Thread
Worked on it again today.
More grinding needed here, but had to get the piece secured in place first. Probably on Friday.

Re: The F350 Thread
One advantage of gelcoat (or FG resin) mixed with the glass microbeads is that it doesn't absorb moisture like regular filler, so unlike regular filler it can be wet-sanded.
I'm using the gelcoat/bead mix as it can be also be buffed like regular paint or gelcoat* after sanding. The FG body kit will be removed at some point and paint matched to the rest of the truck (Oxford White). Basically these repairs are prep for the future paint the way people use filler... & won't stick out like a bulldogs balls the way regular blue, red or green filler would.
Eventual plan is white epoxy primer & then the Oxford white paint.
*If you use what they call waxed gelcoat

Re: The F350 Thread
The new ones haul ass. 14sec 1/4 for the F250, 15's for the F350 Duallies. 500hp & 1200ft/lb. They limit the power in the lower gears to stop them snapping axles.
As for mine, all I did today was buy paint & primer. Drove the ShitBox Honda to the auto parts store & discovered there was a car show going on it the parking lot. The local ricer fart-can Accord club I roll in with the SBH & EVERYONE stopped what they were doing & stared at me Was tempted to park on the end of their rows just for shits & giggles

Re: The F350 Thread
All dry, test drive today. I suspect it was evidence of clumsy bleeding not an actual leak.
got ambitious & did two more cotter pins
The old one on the left looks acceptable..

PAX side steps, will remove the rubber to work on this area, but not only is it screwed on, they also used some rather impressive double sided tape... the fuckers...
It's never bloody ending, but eventually will look just tits

Re: The F350 Thread
I bought some paint for the rear axle etc. It's called Steel-It & comes in grey, black & charcoal. It has powdered stainless steel in it. Not sure if it's available in the UK? It's a bit spendy at $40 for a rattle can, but the results & pretty impressive.

Re: The F350 Thread
Rolled around under the F350 & snugged up the M6 flange bolts on the tranny pan. A few of them weren't quite tight enough which may explain the evidence of a weep.

Re: The F350 Thread
Rear seal on the trans needs replacing. Gonna go see about that tomorrow... & yes, I know it's a $10 part, but we have a nationally renowned E4OD shop here.

Re: The F350 Thread
Trans seal:
First place quoted me $385 parts/labor over the phone. Was running errands yesterday & dropped by the place...
Already pulled a bait & switch, they won't be working on the truck.
On the phone it was "yup, just drop the truck off we'll have it done in a day"
At the shop it was "we'll take a look at it" & they wouldn't go beyond that. In fact he said it 3 or 4 times. Wouldn't say how much to replace the seal etc.
Place looked like a scrap yard with junkers on the lifts that looked like they'd been there a year. There wasn't square inch of floor that wasn't 3ft deep in scrap parts. They're advertising as the really good shop we had here for decades, but that's not the name on the building.
Fuck em.
When to the other place I found this morning. Guy says he has two other seals to do this morning, looks at the wall clock & tells me to come back at 11.
I rock up at 11 with cash, treats for his GSD & a box of donuts. Me & the owner shoot the shit for maybe 20 minutes while one of his guys swaps out the seal
$100 done & dusted (+ $16 for the donuts, I ate one of them)
F350 looks a bit scary a few feet in the air...
