Interesting viewpoint, although scientific research has allowed you to be posting via the internet, so it's not pointless.Greenman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 10:21 pmWell exactly.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 8:34 pm “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?”

Research is almost theoretically pointless IMO as it always comes back to the fact that we are what we are and there is nothing else, science tries to prove this, but can't! - Believing there is nothing else does not make you clever or more evolved, nor does it make you inferior, you need to live your life out how YOU think it should be played otherwise we are all fucked, we will all be breeding the same genes and will continue promoting a failing society that is led by greed!
We know what we are doing, but are all just too paranoid and ignorant to except our fate!
Science isn't trying to prove that we are unique, far from it. The search for life outside of this planet is extensive, so they have been actively looking to try and disprove the theory that we are unique, however the observable evidence is there is nothing out there, so at the moment, the hypothesis that we are unique is valid (until someone can prove otherwise0.

We can work towards something without knowing what we are actually getting ourselves into, which is why life is so exciting, no mater what level you live it on!!!!!

Isn't that life? None of us knows how are* lives are going to pan out, so we don't know what we're getting ourselves into.Greenman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 12:00 amScience like life is just theories!

That is exactly what i am saying...we are life, we don't know how it's going to pan out, we our in control of our own thoughts and should not be lead into deception or into tribal groups that make us all robots that are easily controllable.westers151 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 12:06 amIsn't that life? Science is used to predict the impossible and Religion is used to deceive the foolish...

Ah, gotcha, and agree, however....that assumes everyone has the intelligence and morals not to get into tribal regimes, and that's observably not the case. We educate people, yet tribalism happens.Greenman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 12:14 amThat is exactly what i am saying...we are life, we don't know how it's going to pan out, we our in control of our own thoughts and should not be lead into deception or into tribal groups that make us all robots that are easily controllable.westers151 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 12:06 amIsn't that life? I don't agree that science predicts the impossible, far from it. Science sets a hypothesis, and then attempts to prove that hypothesis. Every other scientist tries to disprove it; Ok, not every scientist, but you get my point - they're a competitive bunch and none of the like someone else to be the big cheese.
Science does admit that they don't know, and can't comprehend what was around before the big bang.
As for the religious side of things, I'm not qualified to comment.

In order for our government to be able to deliver an electronic message wirelessly to virtually every person who carries a pocket computer with them; somebody had to create a quite complex system. Many somebodies. Uncountably many.
Data centres, computer systems, broadband cellular networks, satellites, mobile phones... Quite a list of tech.
Imagine Sir Winston Churchill, back in the day suddenly decides that's a great idea, let's make one. There were some extraordinarily talented engineers around at the time, some of them with greater genius than we have with us today so why would that have been absurd? Because until we do the legwork, try out the theories, do the research we do not progress.
That's less than 100 years ago, closer to 50, easily within a generation. The VAST majority of research appears to be "pointless". It starts out with a premise, develops a theory, tests that theory against observation, the observations do not follow the theory, we need to look for a new premise.
Without those many "failures" we do not progress. Research is vitally important and in many ways possibly the most important endeavour for mankind. Otherwise, what's the point?

Without it, we would stagnate."
