I'm struggling with exhaust thoughts, from a noise prsepctive i don't want/need anything at all more than i have. But the OEM headers are prone to discolouration and that troubles me.

Whether it troubles me enough to spend £500-1000 on it, i'm not so sure.

One of the lads above has this for sale for £500, titanium Akrapovic

But to purchase that i'd have to be selling the Nitron i've just purchased really. However after the test ride and the ride yesterday, i'm not honestly seeing a handling issue with the thing, so do i actually need to worry about the Nitron, many many people say yes.. I'm thinking more 'no' but maybe if i fit it, it will transform the bike to an even better one LOL.

I've seen folks use Black widow systems with these and reckon their great. I'm of an age where I'm enjoying a quieter life, slipping under the radar.

That s/h akra still has a cat fitted to it iirc.
The carbon akra doesnt and with the dB killer in makes just the right amount of noise for me.

I'd test the shock and then see. Handling before noise. If it makes the right noise now, then that is something less to worry about.

I loved my triple noise from the Triumph and it was very addictive. Dartford Tunnel, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, then back down the box like a box of fire crackers on the overrun.

Well the Quickshifter is installed and tested and lovely.

The only downside was the ballache getting it installed which meant removing the footrest (which i've now marked !!!) i couldn't get the bolt holding the footrest off as it was about 4000Nm. That aside the QS works really nicely and smooth as silk !

One minor downside was, the orange KTM helmet had to go, so i've got this as a replacement.

Well if it was me I wouldn't bother with a pipe, but I have noticed a fair few MT09/Tracer/XSR with discoloured/rusted downpipes in my searches so it's definitely a thing. But I think I'd live with it as prefer to not announce my speeding.

Having said that my first Mods would have been a top box and I wouldn't have changed my lid either so probably best not listening to me

Bike sounds like a cracker. Doesn't surprise me it's good, they get rave reviews. Or that it's better than the 690. The choice of a 690 is far more subjective than 'best' I think.

What's the speed like? I'll have to ride one, but that's my biggest worry as being able to go very quickly can be a liability for me. But the thought of easier long distances appeals as does low/cheap maintenance.

Speed is effortless and easy, but because it's less frantic then the 690 you don't always HAVE to be on it, it cruises as well as it speeds.

You dont exactly see much of your £500 akra do you! I'd buy it for noise but if it make no real noise difference, then i'd not bother and look at another system. TBH i'd probably look at another system anyway as for me Akras are crazily overpriced.

Looking forward to a little go on this one- I've never tried an XSR, only ever ridden one MT-09 and that was a long long time ago- the lasting memory for me was a fabulous motor

The Zard ones look pretty cool, they kind of stick with the 'triple' theme, but in a prettier way than the official Akro does.

...and whats with the big hole in the swingarm, is it so you can access the shock mount or something?

Linkage to the shock rather than the shock mount itself.

If you fit any exhaust other than a carbon akra people will just point and laugh because they KNOW you bought the wrong pipe ;)
Oh, get some Gilles rearsets on it too!

Tried the helmet on 5-6 times now and i'm just not quite feeling it, so it's toast.
