I rest rode a Ducati, that was enough for me.
Me too, rode a 1000ss and was expecting something to stir in my soul like everyone says.
But I thought it rode like a pig and I owned a Z750 at the time. I actually tried to hand it back earlier than I did but my mate was happy on mine.
Ergonomics of the 1000SS are suited to Gibbons, they are not a comfortable ride if you're not the right shape.
Seriously though, the Engines take a bit of getting used to. I had a Firestorm before my first Ducati so I kind of got it. Once you get it though, they're addictive - even the old 75bhp 900's.

I do think I'm weird I'd have an RC30, OWO1 and RC45 over a 916 every day of the week. 888 would be higher up my list too.
So would I, but I'd rather have a YZF750 than an OW01 having ridden them both on the same day, I bought the YZF.

What you really want is the last of the oil cooled GSXR1100's... preferably the one with the pink stickers.

I'd have an 888 before a 916 too. I also think the RC30 is a REALLY lovely looking bike.

My first ever memory of a racing motorcycle is a JPS Norton, they were very distinctive and I had a toy JPS F1 car.
Me too. Watching them at Brands, at the time I was into planes and tanks rather than bikes but my Dad and older bro were bike nuts so went to a few races and those JPS Nortons were proper distinctive.
The guy who my Dad rented his cab off raced a JPS coloured single seater which when I was about 7 looked like an F1 car to me and he used to let me sit in it when we went in there. Loved JPS colours ever since

A 1994 900SS in 2000, in was low mileage and in tip top condition, it was horrible to ride, slow and agricultural.
But modern ones have got to be better than that, it would be an achievement to be worse.
I think the original 900SS is one of the most balanced and intuitive bikes I've ever ridden, the 600SS and the 750SS were the same.
The newer shaped ones weren't as comfortable or plush IMO, I had a 1995 600SS at the same time as a new (IIRC 2005) 900SS injection model and the 600SS was nicer to ride.
It handled like a slow steering barge, the gearbox was worse than the one in my 1982 Kawasaki, the engine was slow to rev, I was really disappointed by the handling, in the 80s the bike magazines raved about the Ducati F1 frame and how good it was, they were wrong.
I've ridden the 900SS of ianb and have to admit i wasn't blown away.
When we saw how much quicker he was at PEmbrey last time out on the BMW superbarge, it was remarkable and has to ask some questions about the 900SS for me.... like, well, why...
It must be me, but I fail to see what's attractive about the 900SS, if I had to have a Ducati SS it would be the 600, at least the rotating mass of the engine is not going to be like a cement mixer.
