Anyone up for a Surrey Hills MTB meet?

Prospective question:

I have been to the Surrey Hills on a MTB (and motorbiked through them on Sunday) - but anyone up for a MTB session? I would like to go somewhere different to my home patch and it has a good reputation.
Some caveats
a) Ideally need someone who knows their way around
b) Weekends get rammed - early evening or a weekday would probably work better
c) Date - all depends but if we are trying to do it in daylight it would have to be September

Anyone interested?

@Beancounter knows it well. Earliest we could get there is 4 on every other Monday or 4:30 or so on a normal day.

It really is much nicer in the north/south Downs/Wales/Yorkshire.

I'm always keen and know my way around reasonably well (good enough to fill the day without doing the same trail twice). Happy to do a weekday, morning and/or afternoon.

Date wise, I'm looking at Thursday 2nd Sept onwards.

What sort of trails, climbing and distance do you like to do?

That looks to be Northern Monkey. It's a well known trail and has two jump lines (the jump line in the photo above is the bigger gaps). There are a few more jumpy trails on the part of the hill but I've not ridden them in a few years. Still, happy to go on the hunt for them, I know which ones we're looking for and roughly where they are.

I would be up for mixed riding - up to 40kms ( my arse gives out at 33kms and my will to live around 38km, that said I have done 50km of mixed stuff around the downs).
It would have to be after 10th Sept for me - just because I have holiday / people staying commitments.

I will scope out a few dates - and see what works for anyone interested

That said - feeling beaten up today as had a sideways over the bars after catching a pedal on a South Downs rut. Feels like I have cracked a rib or two - but bugger A&E. Knees elbow, shoulder all nicely razzed ... but I hope I will be able to ride in a few days ( assuming the ribs are just bruised)

Yep, I'm still on the leccy. Sold my T-130 to a colleague a couple of months ago.

I've done 40km a couple of times around Peaslake. A rough guide is 18 miles is about 2,500ft of climbing, most of that is on road or fire path. The drawback with the Surrey Hills is that it's quite uppy downy. Still, the singletrack is worth it IMO. I usually avoid drops and gaps, mainly because I want to make sure I get home again and have twatted myself a few times when riding alone.

It's not a massive set of hills so a trail is more 2-3 mins rather than a 20 min trail

The gap/drop trails are only there if you want them

No. It's like 20-30 trails all off piste over a 4-5 mile area.

As Weeksy says, the trails are a few minutes long, hence why it's up and down. There is a good variety of trails from flowy and fast to rooty and technical. For the most part and certainly the trails I ride, where there are drops or gaps there are also Strava lines around them - I really don't like my tyres leaving the ground.

On a 15 mile ride you can cover a good chunk of the area around Peaslake which is only a small area of the Surrey Hills and not ride the same trail twice. Peaslake is only a tiny area of the Surrey Hills but it's the most well known.

I'm gonna try and make it down, a mate lives there and is always saying how good it is. He's also opened a micro brewery there recently so I need to pop and see him soon

I am in a slightly different position to most as effectively retired other than the RNLI/ Coastwatch stuff I do so I am quite flexible.

Some suggested dates:

Wed 15th
Thursday 16th

Wed 22nd
Thursday 23rd

I have avoided Friday / Mondays because of travel hassles.
Two potential start times 12.00 wish
Or 16.30 ( but we will need lights by then)

The only place I know to meet is the Walking Bottom Carpark at Peaslake...
