If it is a soft link then it shouldn’t be a case of the rivet link being harder than the sealey tool, I have one that’s been used on umpteen chains and it always works a treat. So you will require a more heavy duty chain tool for that.
The tool is designed to work flawlessly with soft rivet links if used correctly, but chains like Tsubaki it won’t work.
I personally would never use a clip link on a big bike but it’s not my decision, I wouldn’t recommend it that’s for sure.
