I expect you have been preoccupied but there have also been problem fires in Greece at the same time, nothing in the news today so I'm guessing they are under control now. Maybe not the PKK.

I expect you have been preoccupied but there have also been problem fires in Greece at the same time, nothing in the news today so I'm guessing they are under control now. Maybe not the PKK.

I'm not blaming the PKK, I don't play the blame game normally, all I did was to report what people and some media outlets were saying. Recep has not blamed the PKK either. I understand that in Marmaris, two 10 year old kids have admitted to accidently starting a fire and then running away scared. Whilst they may be responsible for some damage, they sure as shit didn't cause the devastation in Manavgat, Alanya, Bodrum and all the other 150 fire sites along this coast or the two inland.

What I have said is that these fires are unprecedented. Sure temperatures are high but they're high every July and August. What may be a factor is the dry winter we had but then we had 2 dry winters on the trot 2015/ 2016/2017 but we didn't have widespread forest fires along the whole southern coast. I really don't want it to be terrorism related but I certainly don't want it to be a regular annual feature either.

I feel for the people who have suffered loss - I've been fortunate so far. I came here to end my days in peaceful, happy surroundings. A few more incidents like this every year is going to piss me off.

There's panderelium (in the media) here owing to the *threat* of bacon/pork disappearing from the market in Calizuela. Maybe as much as a 60% increase in price for what little is available.
This has come about because of a State ballot measure in 2018 about humane treatment of animals intended to transit your digestive tract. To wit, it has been decreed that space available for sows who have litters of porkers to have their individual space increased from a minuscule 20sq ft to a mind boggling 24sq ft. The extra 4sq ft is to allow the sows to turn around in their pen.
To this end, the State will be sending *compliance/obedience inspectors* armed with tape measures to all States who wish to sell bacon/pork in Calizuela. There's even a move to allow other States to market here in violation of the news standard until they can (apparently) completely reconfigure their piggeries to the new *humane* standard by adding the enormous extra 4sq ft to each pen. Iowa pig farmers are outraged that this has been "suddenly sprung" on them, even though it's been widely known since 2018.
I don't have much experience of raising pigs, but from what I've seen most of them already have closer to 30sq ft.

Haven't noticed any change at the stores, bacon was the same price this morning as it was a month ago. However, for the second week running WallyWorld had no oranges/tangerines etc. & for some reason Costco was completely bereft of Diet Pepsi, Coke & Diet Coke yesterday. They had the other fizzy pop brands from both these companies, so deliveries are being made.

It’s actually a real story that everyone has chosen to hide in what appears to be frivolous nonsense. There are real supply chain issues affecting the country mainly due to a shortage of qualified hgv drivers.

Their milk is delivered by Arla who have been complaining for a while. I'm not sure why Arla seems to be hit harder than other companies, they have been very vocal about Brexit for years so maybe they were over reliant on cheap EU drivers.

The driver shortage isn't new, it's been developing for years. An aging 'population' of drivers is one reason.

More recent things like loss of foreign drivers from Brexit, reduced numbers coming in due to lockdowns, and drivers off due to isolation have all come to make it critical.
