Alternatives to Paypal for forum subscription?

I just tried to renew my sub, but the only option seems to be Paypal. I have forsworn Paypal (and stopped their ability to DD my bank account) so is there any alternative?

Now that e-bay have cut their tie to Paypal I suspect there will be many others who don't do Paypal any more.

I believe this came up before and using "pay by debit card / credit card" is just below the PayPal button and doesn't require a PayPal account.

If that doesn't work it would get very complex as the back end uses auto emails to let you know when it's expiring. I can't add any other payment method within the system.

Does it work well and simply? Obviously I can't or don't subscribe to myself, partly because I'm selfish and mostly because I'm cruel and heartless, so I've never tried it.

Not really, still via Paypal and they demand all your card stuff AND your name and address. Bearing in mind I can tap and go for £49.99 it seems more than a tad intrusive, like they are collecting my data for some reason.

If there was an alternative I would use it but I can live with it.

IT's certainly something to look into and i 'could' in theory give something like a bank account etc, but it completely changes the whole system and process for renewals then. I guess the big difference is that in some ways we're different to TRC in the fact that being a subscriber here doesn't remove adverts. The main thing is does is give you more PMs/options, which isn't quite of the same benefit, the rest of it is down to giving that warm fuzzy feeling of contribuing. Whereas on TRC it was stopping the damn intrusive adverts. So people would renew just to get rid of them.

I've said it before and will say again, we won't be doing adverts on here... so it's mostly relying on people being nice.

I'll certainly look into it though.

My experience of Stripe (as a business that people made payments to) is that they are Bastard Expensive

Um - ANY online credit card payment gateway will require a certain amount of personal details....

Stripe is a good payment gateway and is easy to add to most sites, usually via a plug in of some sort

My experience of Stripe (as a business that people made payments to) is that they are Bastard Expensive

Fees are less than PayPal for us.....

Fair enough. I didn't use PayPal and stopped using Stripe! Transferwise was way cheaper all round - but obviously they don't provide exactly the same service!

To have the payment go through on your own site rather than go to PayPal they were charging us an additional £20/month. The transaction fees for e-commerce are the same and in person card readers are very similar. We've had less reasons to contact Stripe customer service as the vendor than we did PayPal.

They wanted 5% of each transaction for me. Maybe because it was different currencies. But the amounts meant it really wasn't worth it. (Going back a few years mind - and I was already 'losing' 10% to a booking/comparison site!!!)

yup currency conversion is a sod - we had to set up a Euro bank account to minimise the losses on that
