Good 125's

Are there any?

My boy has a full license here and has a KTM390, he can swap his full license here for a full UK licence, there is a reciprocal agreement, but in the UK he can't ride anything over a 125 until he's 19 - stupid law.

So I'm looking for a 125 but I don't want to spunk another £4k on a new KTM125 and anything old school and decent is even more than that.
It's ridiculous, I can't see any way around it, it's no wonder people break the law when they put mickey mouse ones in place like that.

They do a 300cc version too. They're built in China for Piaggio and I think they've got Aprilia engines.

It's the old Cagiva Husqvarna engine, now made in China, comes in 125, 200, 250, 300, 400, 450 and 510 varieties.

Yamaha YBR125s were widely used by training schools. Solid little things, even your average 125 owner would struggle to destroy one.

Your boy will soon learn why two stroke 125's are the only 125 bikes to ride.

If he can find an Aprilia RS125 they are often full power 125's ....... quick little bikes and if he is a full license holder on the reciprocal agreement then he is legal to ride it as well while most kids here ride them on L plates which is outside their license conditions and also invalidates their insurance

I looked at the RS125 and had a look for a decent DT125 - the problem is that every one I've seen for sale says something like "Needs a service" or "Sometimes hard to start", which in ebay language = fucked.

Time is at a premium and I don't want to spend days fixing something before he can even ride it, that's what happened with his 50, it ran but it was bolloxed and I ended up working all through the night to fix it just to get one day out on it, I even had to knock up a new front wheel spindle on the lathe (which ended up taking me way longer than I thought).

I've got half a dozen bikes sitting at home, 250/350 two strokes, all perfect for a young lad with a full licence, but the ridiculous age law has scuppered it. I feel genuinely cheated out of what should have been a great time with my lad, riding my old 2Ts around the countryside.

It looks to me like they've killed it, you have to take three tests, one at 17, then another at 19 and another at 21/24.
I can't see many youngsters doing that, I wouldn't have.

Meanwhile it looks like you can take a single car test at 17 and then get in a 3.5 ton vehicle with unlimited power plus eight passengers.
Crazy.

Expensive but kept in good nick (which no doubt you will) you’ll get most of your money back on resale.

It might be worth the initial big outlay for something that won’t fall apart.

I doubt he'd ride one, they're dull four strokes and wouldn't be much fun.

I might end up buying a 'classic' two stroke from the 80's or early 90's, they're fun and it should hold it's money - and I'd probably end up keeping it for myself anyway.

What about the Yamaha Supermoto 125???? They look good and seem to go quite well.
I’ve got a MSX 125, great fun but painfully slow.
Gilera runner 125 SP I think is the 2t version, there fun, and you can add some bits
