Just been to two more stores, no mask. Neither of them had a sign about it either.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
The only sign I recall at the gate to the track is "No hunting"
but the town & track are in Kern County, no mask mandate.
We're now being informed (as of 2.30pm) that the reason vaccinated people are being told to wear a mask (depending on which side of the county line you are standing on) is because "We can't trust unvaccinated people to wear a mask".. so there ya have it, fuck all to do with vaccinated people possibly being carriers etc. It's because the unvaccinated are now untrustworthy shady fuckers.

Is that what you honestly believe ? Or are you really just on a wind-up ?
You actually think the hundreds of millions/billions are wrong here and you and the minority of the world are correct ?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I'm happy to be vaccinated and wear a mask even if (big if) apparently it's pointless in terms of spreading, but because unvaccinated really should.
Everyone needs to be involved in protecting the unvaccinated until those that can but won't get the eff on with it. Until then chipping away at their freedoms to persuade them to comply seems a reasonable course of action.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I've talked to a couple of people recently who are reluctant (not actually anti, just waiting for more info) to have the vaccine because "it's experimental and there is no long term information of its effects".
I'm really not sure how to reply. Intelligent adults both of whom I had assumed had had the vaccine but haven't. Both rely on tourist trade for work (not important in some areas but this area relies on tourism, especially Brits).
I've tried the - there's been billions thrown at research, it's not new or experimental, we all need to do it to reduce the country/worldwide effect of the virus
But maybe I didn't explain myself well enough!!
Even though one of them pointed out that there are 11 vaccines that are mandatory for kids here, without them they can't go to public schools. So they aren't anti-vax or screaming 'human rights infringements' (like others I no longer discuss this with!!)
One even brought up the funding and said why has no government done that for cancer? Now, I would love to see cancer beaten but seriously? It's not comparable in the way that Covid has 'stopped' the world from functioning normally. (It's comparable in that probably more of us have lost people to cancer, although that's probably just because the world has stopped functioning normally to protect people from the virus?)
So, how do you explain why the vaccine isn't experimental? I believe it's linked to the flu vaccine? (simple info, I need to remember it and use it next time!! LOL)

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
It's been tested. That's the long and short of it. By people who know what they're doing and have been doing it for decades - it's not a hired task force of Tesco dropouts put together on an open tender by Johnson and Hancock. There's a tiny, tiny chance of "something going wrong" these days either on purpose or due to negligence. The industry is subject to massive regulation and, as you would expect, massive fines and prison time are part and parcel of the consequences of being involved in anything underhand. Individuals involved in testing, data collection, reporting are encouraged to report anything dodgy, you don't want to be caught in the crossfire. The folk who regulate it are a nightmare, proper anal, testy feckers. (The mhra). That's phases 1 - 3 testing.
Plus, post release, testing continues as phase 4 to assess any long term effects. That's going on now and will continue. And there's a system for reporting any adverse events for ongoing vaccines (hence the blood clot thing, that's an example of the system working). These are investigated, sometimes vaccination stops to allow the results to be reviewed.
Yes, obviously we're less than a year into "long term" but looking at other similar vaccines the likelihood of long term harm from vaccines is again tiny.

Mistakes aren't only due to negligence or quick profit, these people know that and the argument won't work. Damaging medicines do go to market so people are right to question new ones.DefTrap wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 7:49 amIt's been tested. That's the long and short of it. I'd point out the proven short/medium term benefits most likely outweigh any unproven long term disadvantages.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Right to question is fine. But even your response isn't actually questioning anything specific, it's just an open ended "what if?"
"Damaging medicines" yeah most very common medicines go to market with a list of adverse events that might make you stop and think. So what?
Most of the folk I see "questioning" are just exercising "their right to have an opinion". Go on then, have one that makes sense. They haven't

As they say, the only difference between medicine and poison is dosage. All medicines can kill you pretty much that doesn't mean we shouldn't use them.

Are we supposed to "follow the science" or not? As of yesterday the CDC were sticking to their guns about there be no need for vaccinated people to wear masks...
However, they changed their minds again today.
Calizuela Governor Newsolini just made himself really popular by comparing people who choose not to get the vaccine to people who choose to drive drunk.

I don't think it matters what science says fella, you've made your decision a long time ago.
Based upon that above, you'll wear your mask today?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
So when I posted that yesterday, I was in full compliance with CDC mask mandates etc. Apparently this seems to annoy you for some reason?
Also: as mentioned (more than once) I'm exempted from wearing a mask under at least three of the dozen or so CDC exemptions from wearing one at ANY time.
As for wearing one today: Nope, not a fucking chance will I be wearing one in the house, or in the pool etc. I'm sure the dog won't mind.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Bit difficult to take the Govt seriously on any of this when they are on track to let 1.7M unvaccinated illegals over the border this year. & the infection rate among them is (currently) 900% higher than it is in the US population.
With that said... Calizuela infection rate is still around 0.0025%.

Most of the car hire companies sold most of their cars as no tourists for a year.
Just been looking to get a car for B-I-L for August. All booked out. Any spare for the odd day are 90€.
That was a week's price normally.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Not only did they sell off most of their inventory, but they assumed they could "just buy new ones" when needed... Then they found out about the shortage of chips leading to tens of thousands of new vehicles being parked up awaiting chips.. The local Ford dealer looks like an empty car park & the 2 acre or so storage field for the Toyota dealer had six vehicles in it last time I drove past.
