I've only gone and fixed the ice machine without needing to get a man in!

Turned 4 bags of ballast and one of cement into a slab of concrete. Hand mixing. I'm now pondering the wisdom of that approach

Went shopping to three stores, no masks required. Then drove up the hill to Tehachapi & found a cool book dated 1899.
Also dropped by Willow Springs *ghost town*.. altho there's still a half dozen occupied homes.

Soaked off a week's worth of caked on,custard filled cement bugs. The little kamikazes get everywhere on a naked bike.

Looks like a cool place for a few photos. Like something out of a Stephen King book.

Told More Than to shove their pet insurance as it was too expensive.
Took Sydney to the vet, was told she needs X-rays on her dodgy leg, under sedation. Vet asked if I had insurance. Relayed this morning's conversation with More Than.
On the phone to More Than now, ready to do some serious back peddling and take out the renewal.

Either way, I'm fooked. Had card poised to pay and the fella asked the $64,000 question, 'Does Sydney have any pre-existing conditions?'
Ah, well. Looks like the mutt will just have to go lame.....

Re: What have you done today thread?
54th anniversary of my mother's death today. I'm in the slow process of clearing out the old family home to pay for my dad's care and I came across her old ATS service badges. I was being very ruthless binning old stuff, but it's funny how you can't quite bring yourself to throw away some things, even though they are of no use. I gave them a polish instead!

Re: What have you done today thread?
Went to the valley relatively early for two lots of physio. Then fuel, then shopped in two shops (I hate doing that, but Lidl is so much cheaper for most things!!). Stopped for a cuppa with mates on the way back. Then went to someone else to drop off some chopping I'd got for him, more tea - fair swap, he brought back some decaf yorkshire tea for me
Then eventually home to sort out the passport photo online, another fail, more stress!! LOL
Going to crash out now and try to sleep well as another busy day off sick tomorrow (it's going to be a relief when the winter happens and I can go back to my proper job) - swimming, talk to a hairdresser about maybe cutting mine, cooking (friends coming for dinner), physio, dinner with friends. Somewhere in there I have to do three lots of physio, twice at least!!

Re: What have you done today thread?
Called a friend who's having a tough time with pancreatic cancer that's spread to his liver and other places you wouldn't want it. I try to call once every week or so, but today he just picked up and said, 'Can't talk. I'll call you back' and cut me off.
Text a few minutes later from his missus. Back in hospital. Chemo's cancelled, blood cells through the floor, jaundiced and not in a good way at all. Morphined up.
Memories of my B-I-L's incredibly rapid decline from diagnosis to passing with the same cancer.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Went to see a mate who has been off work since December with COVID which has turned into long COVID. He's about 90% himself, just not quite as sharp and on the ball as he usually is. He was saying that after he does anything, including visits from friends, he needs a rest. Walking and talking is difficult and any sort of slope and its just a slow walk with laboured breath. Even driving knackers him out and if he does too much of anything, it's days to get over it. His G.P. just keeps signing him off, he's offered to go on trials or experimental stuff but there is nothing.
