I wouldn't bother with an ebike for the road. There limited to about 15mph, so after that, your on your own and there heavy. There great at helping up the hills, unfit folk needing assistance up to 15mph. I'd rather they assisted to about 20mph, then maybe for the road.

The Specialised sirrus 2 hybrid bike is great for £500. Well built, light and glides over the tarmac with 80 psi and your can keep it over 15 mph easy enough.

I haven't.

Don't think @Couchy has had to with either of his Bosch motored bikes?

I'm still struggling to see the Ebike thing here :)

just as a sidenote, furlough has done the natural / unofficial trails the world of good in the FoD, some have even grown extra limbs
I really need to do a visit to the FOD. It was the first time I rode an emtb in anger, and definitely contributed to me buying one.

mine came back this week with a nice new bosch motor.

1 year old, 850miles and the drive side crank bearings were completely fooked.

Was that done under warranty?

yes, the only issue I had was the length of time that it took for it to be sorted out, I first contacted Rutland during the first week of lockdown and then bike shops had the double whammy of getting really busy and limiting the amount of staff working.
once repair was agreed, I had a box couriered to me next day, the following day the courier came back and picked up the boxed bike. and then it was a waiting game for them to physically get round to looking at it, Bosch sending out a new motor and them getting around to fixing it.
The lad doing repairs told me that on the day the courier delivered my bike, it was one of thirty two bikes delivered for repair, and there was only room for 2 people to fix them

Had a quick look online and it appears the £3.99 seal fails and water gets into the bearing, I'm keeping mine clean by brushing out any dirt with a soft brush, I think people should avoid spraying WD40 in that area as it perishes rubber.

I would also rather that reliability went up ( everyone I know here has had to send their back to the shop - so local dealer seems to be key).

But I am in the Slenver / Weeksy camp - I cycle to keep fit . Having just been on the Downs and completed a 30k loop, I realise I like the climbing and pushing myself. It's doing me good - and making big changes to my life. I can fully see the point of an e-Bike. None of the people who bought e-bike ride their "Amish" ones any more. Go figure ...
I’ve had 3 Bosch ebikes all derestricted and I still have 2 of them and a mate has the original one. They have been used in all weathers and all year, I have been paranoid about keeping the motors clean and sealing them with waterproof grease. None have been any trouble. Most problems with Bosch are from water ingress both when riding and by folks cleaning. They should never be jetwashed but many do.

As for riding an ebike I do it wholely for the fun of riding on 2 wheels, the more speed the better. If all the local trails were open to motorbikes I’d have a motorbike for off road. But the ebike is the closest I can get and I thoroughly enjoy it, it’s awesome

Forgive me, but anyone who says this about ebikes doesn't understand how they work.

Ebikes, using frame mounted drive train motors, are force multipliers. If you put no effort in you'll get nothing out of the motor. If you work as hard as you would do on a conventional bike you will go faster than you would on a conventional bike because the motor is multiplying that effort.

At the top of a steep hill my heart rate is still sky high and I'm blowing out of my arse, but rather than having spent 15 minutes slowly grinding up the hill I've spent 6 minutes flying - comparatively - up it.

You go out an ebike for the same length of time as you would on a conventional bike and put the same amount of effort in and you'll burn the same amount of calories but you'll have gone twice as far.....
That works if you have the ability to ride that fast and the trails to go that fast, a lot of the trails in our end of the country are tight forestry ones.

We're going to Swinley on Sat, there are certainly places you could ride faster than you would on an analogue bike but at the risk of face planting a tree at speed.
Where the terrain and/or ability limit speed then the ebike rider will burn less calories.
If Docca's going out with his kids then unless they're all on ebikes and all going faster than an analogue bike then they won't be burning the same calories.
So are we saying on your tight twisty forest trails an ebike won’t go any quicker......I’m yet to find a trail local in the clear or in the forests that an ebike can’t go quicker. The only time I don’t get a workout on my ebike is when I ride with analogue bikes and it doesn’t seem to matter who is on them. Once on my own at my enhanced pace the workout is there. Even if you ride for fitness and enjoy the pain from a slow climb you can get the same pain on an ebike you’ll just be covering more ground at a higher pace so you’ll have the fun of speed too. I just don’t get puffing out your arse for no speed, if I’m gonna put the effort in I want a reward 🤣🏆
