Being against wholesale immigration doesn't mean that you have to be against immigration or against immigrants. Maybe your friend is, but one doesn't necessarily follow from the other.

You may be correct. Perhaps, though, on this rare occasion, Pirahna knows the guy and his beliefs?

Perhaps it didn't come across quite like that.
You used the 'but' word, which often means that the subsequent statement is the true belief.

Wisbech, home to immigrants since Saxon times. You'd have to be a king Cnut to try and reverse that tide.

I love to see folks who are obviously on their first day here.
Couple in front of me just paid their bar bill.
3 G&Ts.
2 red wines
€8.50. They giggle like schoolgirls

They have to do something to attract people to a sand bowl.

That's not sand, it's grit. And every oyster needs grit to make a pearl.

€20 tip from one of my guests !
It's very rare to get a tip in summer, this might be the first time I've ever heard of someone getting €20 !

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
The Gremlinette decided to hawk her waitressing talents to a local Italian restaurant and had a try out last night. She did well and afterwards the manager sat her down and went through the menu, asking her questions about the dishes, Italian ingredients, etc., trying, as she told us, to catch her out. Apparently he was shocked that she knew what both burrata and focaccia were, as well as describing what the dishes were on the menu. I think what sealed it was when she mentioned that she was surprised there was no Amaro on the drink shelf.
I knew dragging her to Italy for all those years would pay dividends eventually.

I hope she gesticulated wildly whilst pointing these flaws out!gremlin wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 11:35 am The Gremlinette decided to hawk her waitressing talents to a local Italian restaurant and had a try out last night. Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
In April I applied for my "Carte De Sejour" which to put it succinctly, means if successful I will be able to live and work in France just like we could pre brexit.
A few days ago I was sent an appointment time to go to the office and have my fingerprints taken. This is pretty much the final step before getting my card
So far the total of the costs involved is €6 to get some passport photos, although as I needed 2 for my Carte Vital it could be argued that the ones for my CDS were free as I had them left over !
I appreciate my situation is different to others but at the same time, for 5 years now Remainers have been telling me " You're fucked, you won't be able to work in France anymore " and it seems this is just another time that Sacremongering has turned out to be just that !

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Both me and a friend were both here before 31st December (the main requirement to apply) and neither of us have heard, despite applying at the end December/early January and sending follow up emails to ask if the office needs more info to progress the applicationJody wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 10:17 am In April I applied for my "Carte De Sejour" which to put it succinctly, means if successful I will be able to live and work in France just like we could pre brexit.

Somewhat stressful as I cannot work the winter until I have it in my hand. And whilst in theory I can get a job with just the confirmation email, many employers won't accept that - and the Swiss won't accept that for my papers to drive to Geneva airport for work (yes, my back-up is that I should get an Irish passport, but that only helps if I have it in my hand very soon!!)
I have a number of friends who have done anything from 5 - 15 seasons here but didn't fulfill the requirement of living in France before the end of 2020 and, as a result, could not apply
You have been lucky and I applaud that you have the interview and will get the card. But many others ARE fucked and can no longer work here without a visa - which are somewhat challenging to get
