I think the only other alternative would be a featherbed frame to create a Norvin. Having been to see a full on standard vincent anthi g would be an inprovement on the standard bike after a minute or so ticking over it had crossed the showroom on the mainstand

For the 1974 season, the racing department developed two new 500 cc air-cooled three cylinder bikes, called H1RW (W standing for “works”).
The base of the bikes was identical to the 750 H2R, with lower diameter frame tubes (35 mm instead of 37 mm on the 750). The specific front brake callipers were forged in the lower fork part. Finally, the gearbox disposed of six gears (five on the privateer H1R).

The red bit is like the blue bit on the Yamaha Blue Spots.
It screws into the casting.
Take it out and you will be able to extract the pistons. The only way to do it on one piece cast callipers, that you can't split.

I wonder sometimes how they do it on F1 callipers, which are single piece and 'solid' on the back. With really really expensive processes one assumes There's some reet fancy machining in F1.
EDIT: At a guess, they have a cutting tool that sticks out at a right angle and spins to actually cut, then they rotate the whole calliper body around to cut the bore. So you have something like a 10mm cutter which cuts out a 30mm hole by 'drawing a circle' IYSWIM. Far more time consuming and expensive than boring straight through the back, but it means you can make solid callipers.

I wonder if the caliper was an attempt to get round patents? IIRC Lockhead patented the conventional twin piston hydraulic brake.

I suppose that way of doing it is stiffer, but by 'eck it's a big lump of metal. Look how much that F1 calliper is pocketed out in comparison, but then it's probably worth more (or at least, cost more) on it's own that that whole bike if you ignore the 'history tax'. Or at least, it'll be bloody expensive!

went up to @27100 then the seller cancelled all the bids and finished the item 11 hrs before the end of the auction. Thats cheap for what it is. prob sold outside the punitive selling fees
