I think the riders understand the very real risks in the same way that IoM TT racers understand what the worst case scenario looks like

I can't watch it (or Rampage) without thinking "life changing injuries".

This is what they do though, they do it for the fear as well as the money from sponsors. The adrenaline, the buzz, the "i've done it"...

Plenty have had life changing injuries doing less. Very few of the freeriders have been hurt there..... or indeed at Rampage for example.

Looks properly scary. I don't mind the rocky bits it's the bloody great gaps they launch over.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

It's like any sport, risky or safe, no one is forced to take part.

I would have been well into that in my 20s, much cheaper than skiing beyond my ability.

Gulp!!!

There were a few people close to hanging up on that second jump. But that road gap is just insane - yes I know it's a drop to gap but it's FUCKING MASSIVE and straight into a berm.

If ever there was something to make you want to pump your brakes in the air, uselessly trying to slow yourself down so that you know that you can get round it!!

Check out Bernard Kerr's utube channel for more videos of this (and other events).
What's really refreshing to see is how all the riders are in it together, giving tips, advice and encouragement.

Gee Atherton makes his comeback to racing...

After the hugest crash ever... he thought "yeah an 86' blind gap jump as a feature will be the comeback"
