I just Googled the 1050.

WTF is that stupid thing stuck on the front?

Wouldn't have one if they were giving them away.

So the 790 was a bit of a disappointment then, Steve?

They say never go back, eh?...

Yes Indeed. But I felt with the warranty ending in 2 weeks on the XSR, if there were a time I was going to jump back to a KTM, this would be it.

It was interesting that couch mentioned the height of the front end on the XSR as swapping between the XSR and the 790 really highlighted the difference.

I can see Pembrey bringing a lot of marshalls saying "I thought you were riding an..." To several of us

Test mule but ugly as fuck.
There was talk of there being insufficient space to expand the 790 engine, we've heard of 890's failing, would you trust a 990 version of the same block?

I still fancy a 790 ADV though..

It's the CP3 engine that's hard to walk away from. With the Tracer, if not ridden for a while I start thinking about other bikes, but once I've been out, it's a keeper again. They absolutely fly when revved out. Saw 135 trying to catch my mate the other day, who was trying to catch a UFO in front of him.. Got there in no time and still going. 115 hp for the road is ample.

Reliability, practical and oil use are the biggys for me these days. Stick with the XSR Weekys. 👍

I was always sort of surprised you didn’t like Hondas, given your love of quality things and Honda being known for a higher level of finish than most manufacturers?

I’ve never really got the character thing myself. If Honda makes bikes that do everything perfectly, then I’d never call that bland, more likely excellence! I certainly wouldn’t place vibey unreliability in front of it! Bit then I just pootle round looking at scenery, rather then push a bike to its limits and risk chucking it at it!

Must admit the 1050 intrigues me most of the Triumphs. The Street better fits my usual type of bike, but the tests of the 1050 just make it sound like a torque monster.

I tried that CP3 engine as well and really liked it.

Going to start a new post on who else has a xsr900. No demos in my neck of the woods, so it maybe a blind purchase

When I went to the 2017 NEC bike show I headed straight to the KTM stand, to reacquaint myself with the Duke 690 R. Except there wasn't one, only the base Duke 690. When I inquired I was told that the R wasn't in KTM's 2018 model range (the base 690 would continue for one more year), and that the 790 had effectively taken its place.

For whatever reason, and even without riding it, I just didn't 'get' the 790. The tank was a weird shape, the seating position was ever so slightly wrong and I really didn't like the exhausts. Plus I didn't want to be a bug tester on the first model year of a KTM. So I started ringing round the dealers to see if there was any unused stock of Duke 690 Rs. There was, and I got one. Not regretted it.

But I have to say that Yamaha CP3 engine looks and sounds great. I could probably see an MT-09 SP in my life at some point. Especially if they got rid of that fugly headlight and gave it a bikini fairing.

I may take it up on that if I can insure myself. Tbh if I can see if the seating position is OK that will do for me!

Trident? ;) Down on power compared to the CP3 and 765.

On the KTM thing, I love how they look and would love to try one some day.

I think KTM 790s are great while in warranty, but if you can spanner they would work as well. The electronics on them (if you have the relevant pack) are awesome.

I just want something I can ride without wondering which seal may go first.
