*** BREAKING NEWS *** The end IS nigh - and it's 2035
The government yesterday released their action plan "Decarbonising transport: a better, greener Britain". And for the first time it sets a date for the phasing out of petrol driven motorcycles.
The action plan says:
"We will consult this year on a phase out date of 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible, for the sale of new non-zero emission powered two and three wheelers (and other L category vehicles)."
So that's your lot. After that it's going to be electric or fuel cell driven bikes.
Of course, petrol-engined bikes won't be banned - at least, not as currently envisaged. Best start making your plans now!
I'll be looking at this in more depth in my Elevenses webcast on Sunday.

I'll be dead, not because of age, but because I live hard and fast.

With an electric motor, you can still have a brush with death.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 5:01 pm I'll be dead, not because of age, but because I live hard and fast.

I expect petrol will be 10x the current price by then. Shame it doesn't keep, you could start hoarding now.

Re: *** BREAKING NEWS *** The end IS nigh - and it's 2035
I honestly expect to be riding an electric bike way before 2035. Id be riding an electric bike right now if I felt like spending £20k on a bike...I don't I imagine I'll be on a washing machine within the next few years.
I also fully expect to owning/riding the old Bonnie by 2035
..its already a dinosaur anyway!
In 2035 ill be 51 and not paying for my daughters school fees or my mortgage anyway (hopefully!) so maybe I'll get something reet flash and whirry.

If they can make a crazy enduro bike weighing 100 Kgs tops, then I'll give it a go.

That can be done but expect the range to be about half a mile.
