Drop it in citric acid solution for a week or so, and it should just need taking apart, cleaning, oiling and reassembling...

I use a variety of methods for my restoration projects, I have already done half a dozen Swinden’s vices though this is my biggest yet. I have another five or six full size vices to do which will probably get one video each for the process. Some are broken, missing parts, some just old and rusty.

I am leaning towards an electrolytic bath for this one which I think might be seized solid.

On clearing out my late father’s house, I found a Record No 52 1/2 vice and a Record No 4 vice.

They weren’t on the fixtures and fittings list, therefore they both ended up in my car.

The intention is to strip, paint and rebuild both before building a bench to mount them both on. I’ll post photos when I get chance.
