Did you ever try a 790 ?
No, kind of don't want to in case I like it as it'll probably be perfect for me and they are good money in the main. But don't want to worry about any oil/coolant leaks, clock problems etc on my next bike. The issues sound minor but widespread.
I did try a 790 Adv as Jim Aim gave me one at the service and other than the engine much preferred my 690 in pretty much every way
So even if you got a coolant/whatever issue it's under warranty.
Wouldn't wanna pay 9k for a bike and that'd only cover me for 2 years. I've had the 690 5.5 years and would like to have my next bike for at least as long if not longer.
If the 790 issues were covered with fitting updated parts or something that might help but keep reading about folk getting same issues again and again so not convinced they've sorted anything. Plus clocks failing outside warranty would be a massive pain in the cock.
An XSR900, Z9, GSXS etc just wouldn't give me the headache.
Indeed it wouldn't sir.... warrrrrrrr,warrrrrrrrr,waaaaaaaaar
I need to pull my finger out and test a Tracer, Z9 and GSXS.
XSR prices are up since you got yours but current thinking is I'd probably be best stumping up and getting one rather than one of the others as a cheaper option.
Having said that I think we'll be super lucky if Mrs has a job come Sep so fully expecting to be 690'd up again next year. Which isn't the end of the world

Aren't there claims of some Yam 900s (XSR & Tracer etc) developing cracking frames?

Dunno, not heard about it. But to be honest I've not looked

i'm on the FZ09 forum which covers all versions and not seen a single thing on it i'm afraid.

Only if you overload the little storage box near the headstock.
Looks like it was debunked as casting imperfections, but i CBA to read it all to be sure? Looks like it was earlier bikes anyway and would have been known about by now if it was an issue? I just remember hearing something about it a while back/

IT's not just old bikes though, i was looking at 990 Superdukes for a mate yesterday, you can't find one of the buggers for sensible money at all. Even things like 690s... They're doing £6500 for an 18 with 5000 on the clocks.... KTM were punting them out for £5999 new !
I think that's a factor too. On my local Kawasaki dealer's site the new price on my bike is over 2k more than I paid this time last year. Prices are on the up in general. New prices get to the stage where they become prohibitive for some folk,so the used market prices rise accordingly due to demand.
If you think not worth the money the owner is asking, don't buy em.
Err... that about sums it up for me.
Personally I can't see where the value of VW vans comes from cos to me they dont seem that good for the money but they do hold their value well as loads of people love em.
Baffles me but I'm not going to buy one nor am I going to pine cos I don't have one.
Well used car prices are up anywhere between 10-20% according to the news tonight, so maybe its affected bike prices as well? My cars deffo going up for sale for ridiculous money! If it goes, it'll be a right result. If it stays, then roof down time as per normal. Win Win really!
