6 Months ago we were still in lockdown. When it eased a bit in May bike sales went mental.

Re: Expensive Crappy Old Bikes
As per Cheesy's post old 90s bikes are being sold on nostalgia now. YZF's, ZXRs, SRADs, Blades, R1s which were £1500-2k are now 3k and up. Even ZX9s are on the up off the back of it. There was a glut of ZX9s for the £1200 - £1800 mark and that's now well north in the main. Either it'll stay up off the back of them actually being considered 'Classic' or the old bastards buying them will realise in 6 months time that actually they aren't riding them due to the riding positions and prices collapse as there isn't the market to sustain it.
Yup I've considered keeping my 690 and getting a SD as well if I could so it for the sort of money a switch to an XSR would cost. But the asking prices now of decent ones are between 4k-5.5k some are even up for 6K+. For 6k I can get a GSXS Thou/XSR/Z9 which would be 10 years or more newer and less miles. No, kind of don't want to in case I like it as it'll probably be perfect for me and they are good money in the main. But don't want to worry about any oil/coolant leaks, clock problems etc on my next bike. The issues sound minor but widespread.
I did try a 790 Adv as Jim Aim gave me one at the service and other than the engine much preferred my 690 in pretty much every way

Kawasaki in Colchester are knocking some money off the base 890s...

So even if you got a coolant/whatever issue it's under warranty.

Re: Expensive Crappy Old Bikes
Normally when I sell a bike,a couple of years later the prices start to climb.
I sold an 04 ZX10R C1 last year and folk are already claiming they are a sought after model now.
That's my top tip for the day.
Anyway, buyers set the real price, the asking price may differ.

Re: Expensive Crappy Old Bikes
Wouldn't wanna pay 9k for a bike and that'd only cover me for 2 years. I've had the 690 5.5 years and would like to have my next bike for at least as long if not longer.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 1:09 pm Kawasaki in Colchester are knocking some money off the base 890s...

So even if you got a coolant/whatever issue it's under warranty.
If the 790 issues were covered with fitting updated parts or something that might help but keep reading about folk getting same issues again and again so not convinced they've sorted anything. Plus clocks failing outside warranty would be a massive pain in the cock.
An XSR900, Z9, GSXS etc just wouldn't give me the headache.

Re: Expensive Crappy Old Bikes
I need to pull my finger out and test a Tracer, Z9 and GSXS.
XSR prices are up since you got yours but current thinking is I'd probably be best stumping up and getting one rather than one of the others as a cheaper option.
Having said that I think we'll be super lucky if Mrs has a job come Sep so fully expecting to be 690'd up again next year. Which isn't the end of the world

Aren't there claims of some Yam 900s (XSR & Tracer etc) developing cracking frames?Supermofo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 1:19 pmWouldn't wanna pay 9k for a bike and that'd only cover me for 2 years. Re: Expensive Crappy Old Bikes
Looks like it was debunked as casting imperfections, but i CBA to read it all to be sure? Looks like it was earlier bikes anyway and would have been known about by now if it was an issue? I just remember hearing something about it a while back/weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 2:35 pmi'm on the FZ09 forum which covers all versions and not seen a single thing on it i'm afraid.

Re: Expensive Crappy Old Bikes
I think that's a factor too. On my local Kawasaki dealer's site the new price on my bike is over 2k more than I paid this time last year. Prices are on the up in general. New prices get to the stage where they become prohibitive for some folk,so the used market prices rise accordingly due to demand.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 6:52 am IT's not just old bikes though, i was looking at 990 Superdukes for a mate yesterday, you can't find one of the buggers for sensible money at all. Imho it's PCP pushing the prices up on new bikes.
People are not concerned with the ticket price, only what they have to pay monthly.

To an extent yes. But that's the world we're in now. It's good and bad depending if buying or selling of course.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 5:41 pm Imho it's PCP pushing the prices up on new bikes.
