I've missed hugs. I've pretty much always hugged my friends when I see them. It's been a long time now. Every now and then I meet a friend who is double jabbed and takes similar care as I do - she always hugs me and it makes me feel happy (cos of the hug, not cos I fancy her! Before anyone starts!). I even managed to sneak a birthday hug for the physio - mostly so I could show off that I can reach to hug properly with both arms now!!

But I am in no rush to return to the French bisous thingies!

I'm happy to wear a mask inside. It's a bit weird to wear a mask to walk to a cafe or resto table and then sit for an hour or so without, only to put it on to walk out. But if it's necessary, its necessary - as Jody said, it's no biggie to wear one and not having to outside in the heat is bloody lovely!!

From 19th August, all people working in bars/restos etc have to be double jabbed - so that will be interesting as I'm aware of (only very recently aware of) a handful of anti-vaxxers who also work in bars/restos here   (And a handful that are apparently quite vocally anti-vax but don't work in that trade)

You're joking, right? :?

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ed-wembley
This pretty much sums up how I feel about football and the why!

"Jon Wilson, an England fan, said it was “the worst football match I have ever experienced – raw aggression the whole way through”. He added: “Wembley Way was appalling. There were no Covid checks to gain entry as staff were too busy dragging a number of people who were forcing the barriers. My 15-year-old son said afterwards: ‘I don’t think I like football.’”

Ok, the match I went to in Lyon I thoroughly enjoyed. But the crowd before and after had me properly nervous because I was expecting them to kick off like I suspect would have happened in the uk. Sad :(

I don't want to hug or kiss you - well, not unless you're an absolute stunner and you want to have sex with me, then I might hug you first, but definitely not afterwards.
We only kiss the girlies, gayboy.
LOL I found it really weird out here to get kissed on both cheeks by pretty much everyone. And the guys do the same to the guys. Worst thing, for me, no fukker seems to stick to starting on the same side so on occasion, you end up meeting in the middle - not fab with most of the people that decide to 'bisous' me!! LOL

I don't think you are being petty, I doubt she cares much about food hygiene either.

This is an interesting read. Sounds like the not touching/sanitising thing is not as important as the ventilation/mask thing

She used to be one of two partners and she's now buying out the other, seemingly with someone else. She doesn't work in the kitchen, but I've worked in bars where people don't care about cleaning

Her attitude to the vaccine seems somewhat weird/over the top to me (but then I'm double jabbed), especially as we NEED people to be vaxxed to enable us to have a winter season - I can't see that many of us will survive a second closed season after the original half season :( :( If you don't want to be vaxxed - sodding well move somewhere that it doesn't matter!!!!

I've been to lots of footie games and West Ham ones at that who have a certain reputation, but whilst there is an atmosphere I've never seen trouble. Not saying it doesn't happen cos it does but it's a small % overall. I grew up 5 mins walk from Wembley Stadium and there used to be the odd bit of trouble during cup matches/play offs but not much. Worse was general drunkeness really ie pissing over neighbours fences, rubbish, shouting etc.

My Ex GF uncle had a home/away season ticket for 2 seasons at the Hammers. Only trouble he ever got was at Newcastle. He went went to a pub in Newcastle when we were playing Brough and he said the pub was great. So he went back when we played the Toon. He said he got about 2 sentences in before picking up his accent he had the first ashtray thrown at him.

Oh totally. I do know it's mostly me and my perception (I saw a LOT of the violence/hooliganism on the TV when I was a teenager and long after). I was doorstaff for a few years in places from Bristol to Taunton/Bridgewater and so probably have an over sensitive
'spidey-sense' for angst in bars/clubs and generally in big groups. But, I've never felt any worry or stress amongst rugby fans!!

I'd go to a football match again, but with someone taller, stronger and calmer than me!! LOL

LA Media again in full fear mongering panic mode about the Delta variant. Screaming about 1000 cases a day for the past three days (in a population of 10.4Million).. after blathering on & on for a while they get to the end of the report & casually mention that the number of vaccinated people hospitalized with Covid is....

Zero.

I like that guy, he's been posted here before and it's interesting reading. I'm not sure I'd be holding onto him as an authority on a national strategy though, he is an intensive care consultant, it's like asking an electrician what the UK energy strategy should be.
In that linked article he's quite honest that the 'unlock' decision is awkward and difficult.

Considering that was posted on the 6th, his comments about relaxation of mask use seem to align with, for example, today's announcement about use on TfL public transport.

However, I posted it for ZRX because of the information as an example on what is actually happening in UK hospitals. Obviously investments can go up or down, no guarantees or promises, but if numbers in the US follow anything like what's happening here, it might be a shock to some.

It's interesting (to me) the different takes on the infection rates / hospitalisations / deaths between countries...

(there follows, some generalisation)

- in the UK, 'spiralling' infection rates currently against the backdrop of historically an effing huge total number of deaths and critical hospitalisations. The mood seems to be that yeah we're broadly we're fine with the current rules, what's a few more thousand deaths as long as it's not 10s of thousands?
- the US maybe in a similar position except probably even more gung ho
- whereas Oz is back into lockdown and further restrictions at even a sniff of an infection rise and, historically, much lower covid deaths.

As Eddie izzard said "we can't deal with deaths over and above 20" it becomes meaningless.

I think I'm similarly waiting for the (foolhardy) lifting of international travel restrictions so I can be in and out of the UK again before it shuts down. I don't mind quarantining on the way back (as it can be chez nous) but quarantining on the way out is a super-drag in an iffy UK hotel and 10 days hopping via a Fantasy Covid island is losing it's appeal.

It's a pure guess.

I'd be very surprised if opening up like this makes covid numbers go down.
The absolute best you can hope for is that the NHS isn't overwhelmed and there aren't too many dead people, the transmission of the virus is going to be helped significantly.
It was not a "pure guess", it was a clear statement of what will happen in the future.

We're all playing guessing games here. I'm just looking at solutions that suit me because clearly the amount of 'control' is going to drop off rapidly now - if I'm wrong probably all I end up with is a 10 day holiday in Majorca that I wasn't either anticipating or really wanting. Oh and covid.

What's impressive is your faith in the gov and your fellow residents not to fvck this up now.

So everyone has bitched "we want freedom, we want to do XYZ, why can't we do this, why can't we do that"

So the government and the science have said "OK, here's how it is...." and now everyone is saying "oh it's going to be a mess in 3 weeks"

How exactly are they supposed to win ? Anarchy if they cut restrictions, anarchy if they maintain them....

Just different people whinging depending on which way they do it.

They should stop fibbing and pay more attention to managing our health than managing their chances of staying in office?
Set it out plainly so we're absolutely clear on the impact -
- get vaccinated or you're staying in 24/7
- covid passport thing to be used pretty much everywhere
- wear a mask or you're limited to your back garden
- probably still restrictions on mass gatherings
- yeah also keeping travel restrictions :(
Doing this means that roughly X deaths happen and we're closer to normal by Y.

Not
- do what you like
Doing this means that we have no idea at all what X and Y are but it's your fault. Where's the science in that?

Still very few tourists here and over half the bars closed. Even more restaurants.

We're losing a fair bit of money, but the quiet is worth it. The island is not skint by a long way, so we'll cope.
