I've no idea how many times I've done 150mph, only place on track I've seen over 150 on a speedo is Snetterton, but that's not really surprising as it's the only track I've ridden a big bike, but when I had fast road bikes, 1991 to 2003, I would do over 150 (indicated) most times I rode a bike, and multiple times on each ride, I amazed I never had any speeding convictions in that time, given that I had 5 between 1985 and 1990

The way I see it. 15 years instructing. 20 per year. 100 laps per day.
30.000 laps.
I hit 150 most laps. Sometimes twice per lap.

I can completely see that, at Snetterton on an R1 I was hitting 150+ twice a lap, and I'm slow to inters pace, fastest I've ever been was top half of inters.

I had a indicated 104 on a Suzuki 250gt on a very long downhill stretch somewhere around Cornwall. Head down, arse down.

A few years ago we were touring round Croatia before covid. Got on to a cracking motorway, very little traffic.

I thought right, let see what the bike can do. We were 2 up, top box and panniers, screen right up.

Got 141 on the sat nav but backed off as I was shitting myself . That was fast enough for me.

Our lass loves the acceleration on back of the Suzuki, but never had chance to max it out. Until once on a Spanish motorway where I'd just done a U turn so knew there was no cops. It was her idea.

First gear half throttle. Wheel in air.
Second gear same.
Third and 3/4 throttle.
I could hear her giggling.
4th, 5th and 6th full...

Showed 186 after about 2 kms.

She loved it. But never again.

Talking about speed. On the way down to Croatia , we did a stint on the autobahn. The bike I have ticks along at around the 100 mark. Cars were passing me like I was doing 40. I was doing 100 to 120 and I was in the slow lane.

Fastest I have ridden at night on an unlit road was an indicated 165 mph on a work GSX-R1000. This was during the early hours of the morning on the M1 approaching J8 going north.

Took a while for the andrenaline to wear off. Definitely not recommended. Not done anything as scary (in hindsight) as that since.

I remember that us instructors used to go out after the rain and hit 150 on the wet track.
The trick was to get good exit out of the corner.

Scariest was Charlie's, but usually did it ;)

Even had our resident Sweaty silently impressed at Snetterton :D

I liked riding in the rain, seeing as it seemed to rain for 50% of my commutes (in reality nothing like that percentage, it just felt like it).

Don't see much rain out here, but when I do, I'm really wary, as there arent many drains and the water sits in the surface until it evaporates.

From memory first time i remember seeing 100 on the clock was as a 16 year old riding my neighbours RD400 ....... no license, insurance and the 17 year old 125 learner law was in place at the time .oops :)

Highest speed i have seen on the clocks was 167 on my Zx636 completely tucked in on a flat open piece of private road. Never had the chance to max out a bigger bike as the Multi is flat at 145 ish

Skub wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 6:01 pm It used to be a rite of passage for those of a certain age. I still recall the first time I saw the big number on a bike speedo.

None of my 250s did the magic number, not even down a steep hill,so it was 1975 on an air cooled RD350 Yam before I joined the ton up boys!

I was two up on the M2 and slowly the speedo crawled from 90 to the magic number, then I saw the grey meat wagon not far ahead. I was nearly there and couldn't bring myself to roll off after building all that hard earned momentum. Nose between the clocks,I shot past the Landrover, hit the triple digit and slowed off to 70. The police wagon pulled alongside and when I cautiously glanced over expecting the 'pull over' signal, the peeler wagged his finger at me,then drove on. It took a bit more to get a ticket then. I kinda miss those telling off sessions, camera vans don't have the same character at all:

Since even little puddle jumper cars will easily do 100mph now,it's no longer a thing, but 200 is achievable on a modern sportsbike,so is there a double ton up boys club? Is that now a rite of passage,or just a ticket to collecting Bubba's soap?
Weirdly that was the same bike and year for me.

I must be the fly in the ointment because I don't remember and I don't recall trying.

I don't know what maximum speed I've ever done, I maxed out a few bikes at the track, my Dragster and ZX7R spring to mind, don't know how fast that is. I had my car up to 290kph (180mph) but then had to slow down, I think it had a bit left to give, it felt fast though, I can't say I enjoyed it though.

I'm not really into going fast, after 100mph it seems to be more unsettling than fun.

Fastest I've seen in a speedo is about 190mph on my 750 SRAD, it was a very optimistic speedo.

Fastest I've driven a car is about 135mph, it didn't feel safe as the car got very twitchy at over 125.

I went from riding my CA125 (Honda Rebel) did DAS, hopped on my 1988 FJ1200 and exceeded the Ton with ease heading back from Lincoln to London much to my brothers disgust as he was tailing me on his Virago XS1100 and could not keep up. Heated grips, barndoor fairing, and it just rumbled along at 120+ with complete ease. I've had a GPS recorded 158 on the Sprint RS getting away from a lunatic driving an M3 on the M20 (no he did not have flashing coloured lights). No idea what the K will do and I'm too fat/old/chicken to find out. Easily over the Ton on that bike though!

Like many, I've done some very silly speeds on modern bikes, including several flat out that felt a little unstable, but until you've done the ton in a 1966 Landy down a very long hill then you haven't known real fear.

Image

For reference, this speedo under-read a fair bit, and we did get as far as the zero point before backing off.

I like nekkid bikes and I'm not that bothered about doing 100, let alone 150.
We use Kms over here anyway natch' so '100' seems even less relevant.

And I'm terribly risk averse these days. I bumped my head (lid on) at 2mph and it fair rattled my brainbox. So, there's that.

I've been out with my lad for a few hours and I maxed out my Interceptor, it was indicating 170kph with about 500rpm still to go before the redline and wouldn't go any faster but it was windy.

Was it the last of the V8 ones?
