I once put my Satnav on the clocks at Bedford Aerodrome while instructing there.

It showed 186 MPH on the 1Km straight.

Bikes are much faster now than in the early sixties, but a ton is still a ton when you fall off.

My first bike after passing my test was an unfaired Goldwing K1. 100mph didn't feel that fast as the bike was really smooth. Although 50mph through a couple of bends did.

Was able to max out a few work bikes when circumstances meant it was necessary. Never saw more than 185mph on the S1000RR, 180mph on the GSX-R1000 or the ZZR14000. I think that the speedos will not exceed 300 kph (about 185 mph). I know a Prius will not register higher than 116 mph.

Not long after I bought the Goldwing, a mate went one better with an XS1100. Although he did have an RD250 for a month or so before.

Had the RC8 flat out on two of the three runways at the abandoned airbase at Zeljava on the Croatia/Bosnia border. One runway isn't really accessible as it straddles the borderinto Bosnia, but the other two are in fantastic condition (or were in 2019). Not sure what speed the RC8 reached as not looking at the speedo, as trying to pick out my braking marker.

I was a bit a scofflaw in my youth. Had a Kaw (green) S3 400 at 17 with (blue) 250 side covers on it. That would do a hair over a ton, which was somewhat questionable behavior in the lanes of Cornwall. There were a couple of spots along the coast road between Crafthole & Downderry though. We also had a racetrack loop in the back lanes that made this road look like the M1:

Riding my mates RD400 was the first time for me, my RD250 wouldn't get anywhere near.
The most interesting ton was with the missus on the back down the Antrim coast road, I was over towards the white line when another bike appeared coming towards us, also near the line, didn't get a chance to do anything other than blink, f-me that was close

Incidentally my latest bike (Sprint) is probably the only bike I haven’t yet tried to see what it will do flat out.

Plenty when I was younger but then I was racing for a dealership so had access to lots of things even when I shouldn't have.....
189.7mph on the 10R at Brunters wining Superbike Shootout. Speedo showed 186 and I'd missed a couple gear changes correctly as I rapidly ran out of braking distance!!!
Over 200mph on the Racelogic on the ZZR. This is standard other than the Akras's minus cats. That got there and was still accelerating well within the room but that doesn't have the benefit of M4's hauling it up!

All Kawasaki speedos stop at 186mph. The bike doesn't but it means the age old "gentleman's agreement" that the Jap manufacturers have isn't broken.

I bottled out at 145mph on the Diavel going down the Aachen to Koln autobahn. Mainly because it was difficult to hang on.

First time I did 100 mph? Obviously, I have never done that on a public road in the UK.

What you need is a tandem - 50mph is easily achieved, although the 982mph we recorded on it on endomondo is somewhat questionable

Not sure about my first motorised ton, first 4 bikes were almost certainly not quite capable even with a following wind, remember cracking an indicated 120 & later 135 on guzzis I've had in the past but then Vaguelia clocks??

At my age I'm not sure if hauling ass on the ZRX is keeping me young, or aging me faster.

The ZRX gets exercised up to around 125-140 maybe once a month... but with (22yo) stock suspendies on a bike with more power than a stock ZZR/ZX11 & weighing 100lb less make this a somewhat questionable activity. (stock ZZR/ZX11's usually dynoed between 125 &132hp, not the 147 Mama Kaw claimed. My ZRX dynoed at 143rwhp).

Bridge in this vid is the line between two different CHP offices & they tend to sit at the top of the on-ramp. Have to clear six before making noise. The cars in the vid are going 80+, so about 120 passing the white trucks.

The other (downhill) side of the road is where I got my F350 dually up to around 135mph many years ago. Which I only ever attempted once. It took a bit of effort to get it whoa'd up before the bridge. Scared the crap out of me.

Just topped 50 mph in my best approximation of a Mario Pantani aero tuck, descending a Cat One in the Pyrenees at the Tour de France with my brother one year. It seemed to take about 2 minutes to lose all the altitude it had taken me most of the morning to achieve.

Mind you, the gendarme patrolling the crowds wasn't too impressed with us as we hurtled round a corner. He stopped us, gave us a stern talking to, reminded us that there were spectators and told us to walk the rest of the way with the bikes... that good behaviour lasted will we vanished round the first bend then

I've done the 140 once or twice (and backed off almost as quickly). It's still the buzz of the quick acceleration that does it for me every time rather than a top speed.

On the pushbike I can't seem to break the 50 mph barrier either!! Even on one of Yorick's LONG straight hills in Lanza (the one down from Timanfaya to Yaiza) which has three really good steep bits I've only ever hit 49.7mph. I have a regular stretch of hill that I ride which is 46/47 every time I descend but I seem to hit an aerodynamic brick wall at fractionally below 50mph.
