Second time in a morning that I find myself agreeing with you.....

There are figures floating around (CBA to find them) showing the number of kids being sent home vs. the number of confirmed cases. Ludicrous over reaction, particularly given the number of people now fully vaccinated.

There seems to be a new bullish tone coming from Javid as compared to Hancock which I, for one, welcome.

Recep is keen to reduce restrictions on everyone and get some tourists in it seems. I'm reliably informed that he told the world yesterday that Turkey only had 8000 cases across the country.

The mayor of Istanbul said "That's strange, we have 11,000 cases in Istanbul."

The village has plenty of Turkish tourists. They seem to have all left their masks at home.

There seems to be a new bullish tone coming from Javid as compared to Hancock which I, for one, welcome.

I do wonder how much of the change is down to genuine change in thinking and how much is just convenient thanks to the personnel change. The government had basically painted themselves into a corner with the present approach, it's difficult to change tack on the whole lockdown thing once a precedent has been established. Hancock going is a neat little way to tear it up isn't it?

We're well into "do what you want" territory now I think - which means it's a mess.

I was at two similar outdoor events yesterday, one had no signed mask obligation, the other did have a mask obligation. In town they still have the "must wear mask in town" signs up, even though nationally you're not obliged, so of course nobody is.

I'm quite happy to go along with "the rules" whatever they might be, to keep others safe, but the rules need to be clear and some of the unsaved are starting to try my patience. Me and my nearest and dearest are now vaccinated and now relatively protected - those that haven't been (and I spoke to a neighbour yesterday who is dithering and offering lame excuses) then to be honest, fvck 'em. This neighbour was moaning about the vaccines being unsafe (I work in medical trials, I have to nail my eyes in place to stop them rolling out of my head recently) whilst she was chuntering away on one her 20 fags a day. Mental.

The longer the eejits keep making this difficult for us, the longer international travel is going to be screwed, the longer it will be til I see my family again (18 months and counting now for my aged parents).

Well, with Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain and Sweden yet to report today (8 o'clock 5th July) the rest of Europe have reported 6,753 new cases in the last 24 hours. The UK 27,224.

So, who's got it right?

The issue, and one the gov will be terrified of, with letting it run wild is that it will produce a lot more mutations. One of which could cause an issue.

About a month after the 19th July is my bet, as they will use the freedom they are allowing us 'allowing us' to attend festivals etc and will then use that freedom to say it is our fault we are now having to lock back down.

It's standard policy for any political party, pass blame onto those who cannot fight back!

This has already happened with the UK variant.

As far as I know the medics have still not determined whether or not vaccinated bods can still spread the Covid virus. Letting go of the restrictions, some of which are not exactly onerous, is going to lead to the spread of the virus throughout the population. And letting people travel will only exacerbate the situation.

So yes, I think Bozo is being a complete idiot and has already been said abrogating his responsibility to protect the population.

Still, when it all goes tits up at least we'll know how to blame.

Just been told, via the NHS Covid App, that I need to self-isolate for 1 day.

Hardly seems worth the arse. And unfortunately I didn't look at my phone until I'd returned from walking the dog. Maybe I've given a pigeon covid. Who knows?
