He is airing his laundry in public again.... Good hair cut, wish I still had hair to cut!

That’s a very fine haircut you have! Your mrs has done a great job! I started doing Mr WD’s hair about 10 years ago. Saves a fortune and comes in right handy in times like these......Taipan wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 11:31 pm I was getting a bit Nigel Havers, so the wife decided to try her hand at hair cutting. She did a great job IMO, plus I wont be paying any Barbers fees from now on and can waste it on all manner of bike crap!
PS, no it isn't dandruff, its where I brushed the gel out of my hair prior to cutting.

Can’t say really. My fella still has blonde hair! I’ve got far more grey than him and he’s 8 years older!

My father cycled LE to JOG. The people he was with didn't want to do the extra miles down the small road at Dunnet Head so he missed it. He made me promise that if I was up there I had to tick it off as it still bugs him years later.
To be honest, like most of these tick list things, there's not much there!

Looks perfect to me. I like wild and lonely bits of coast. The less there the better. I wanted to see the waves really. I imagine it would have been pretty spectacular but the wind was just silly. Had to careful how I parked the bike so it didn't get blown off the stand. And you could see the sea spray blowing up the cliffs all the way from the main road.scottyuk wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 12:01 pm My father cycled LE to JOG. Pretty much all the way up the A9 from about Helmsdale it was third gear sub-40 mph and canted over at 20 degrees to keep from being blow into the verge. It didn't really let up till I got the other side of Dounreay.
It's another reason to go back and do it again.
For that trip I'd rented a holiday cottage in Glen Moriston and I did the NC 500 in two sections on two separate days. Ideally I'd like to go back in good weather and take more time, probably on a completely different sort of bike like a big cruiser so I can kick back and take in the place rather than just attacking the tarmac all the time which is what I tend to do on the KTM.
I'd like to take some lightweight camping gear too and just stop where I like away from everyone else. Must do it again soon because it's only going to get busier and more crowded.

We had a night at Melvich, we were lucky because soon after the fires closed the road. Firemen getting free drinks in the bar, around the clock job. Blowing a gale when we went to Dunnet head and JOG, but was dry and sunny. For me, the best bits had been done. We went clockwise.
It was actually this day last year we went, 6 nights. Hot and sunny all week. Bit different this year.

I went the middle of June 2018 in the only two wet weeks of the longest hottest summer since 1976...Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 2:27 pm We had a night at Melvich, we were lucky because soon after the fires closed the road. As I was staying there and could do it in two hits, I did the southerly bit from Inverness, Applecross to Ullapool clockwise and then cut across country on the A835 back to base. Applecross Pass is best ridden that way round IMO.
The northern half I did anti-clockwise. The ride up the east coast is interesting but unremarkable but heading west along the north coast it just keeps getting better and better. So I saved the best till last. From Ullapool on the final leg, I cut across country again but this time on the A837 through Oykel Bridge, Bonar Bridge and down the B9176 to Dingwall.
Both those cross country routes are worth riding in their own right.
I should add, I did it on the 21 and 22 of June when there's masses of daylight and I was back home eating oatcakes and having a dram by 9:00 pm. At other times of the year going anti-clockwise east to west along the north coast you run the risk of riding into the sun which would spoil it.
