From the 21st of July they are no longer reqd for travel to EU........not that anyone will be going of course!

Never been aware of it.... ever... i assume this is only because we've left the EU ? i've never needed it before.

Yes - exactly. They used to be needed pre '73 (or a bit later, not sure), but since Brexit there's been questions over whether or not they would need to be re-introduced. I thought they had.

They're needed because within EU there's an agreement between countries that insurance from one country will be honoured if the incident happens in another country (eg paying for medical bills etc without taxes or some such), but outside of EU that agreement is no longer valid.

I last needed one in the mid 1980s. You also needed a bail bond if you wanted to drive in Spain. They had a habit of being quite legally heavy for relatively trivial offences if you didn't have one IIRC.

Yup, we always got them up to the early 90s.

Well, post Jan1 this year, you needed one, but because of the fubar with NI, the powers that be in Brussels have decided now you don't, but it will take 20 days to ratify.
