Well maybe he'll rethink his priorities after this.

He managed to avoid the kid standing in the road shortly before getting taken out by a piece of cardboard..

He shouldn't have to, it's a closed road. His power meter is his priority.

Well this is the one the Brits have been waiting for

The big question for the day "Can DQS deliver Cavendish for the win"

At times in big races you'd see a breakaway winning it, but i can't see any way possible that DQS will allow a break to hold this, nor Caleb Ewans Lotto team either in honesty... It's likely to come down to a Ewan/Cav battle for this one, possible a few others in the mix, but it'd be a shock of one of these 2 don't win it.

OK, lets try it in American.... if racing the Daytona, you'd expect fans outside the wall.... You'd not expect to see them on the track.

Now, think of the edge of the road as the wall, the roads are closed to the public, they're cleared of cars, they're cleared of obstructions, the rider uses the edge of the road to know where tehy're going, so they can look at the power meter and see the edge of the road and know they're OK.... they're not expecting ANYTHING in the way, the roads are closed.. He wasn't staring at his power meter, it's a few seconds glance, then up, then back, then up.... etc... It's just how many pros ride nowdays, cycling now isn't down to "how do i feel" it's down to riding to set powers, set HRs, everything defined in infinite detail.

No way could you have avoided hitting her, there is nowhere to go when the bunch is like that without causing a pile-up, even touching the brakes will cause those behind to collide.

Just like the TT - you can sit on the bank by the road but you can't go on the road - or even dangle your feet over the tarmac! Not rocket science!!

I'm just watching the highlights! I knew cycling could be a bit hurty and fally, but damn this tour seems to have more than usual? Or am I just taking more notice??

Way more than usual as well as more riders along with them also being main protagonists too.

I've seen them 'live' twice, once they were all spread out as it was near the finish in a resort and the other time was the next morning and they came hooning through the village in the valley. Scared me somewhat as I had no appreciation of just how fast they go (I know, but I've always been a little scared of cycling!)

To see whole groups of them going down is mad to me!!

It's not rare for them to exceed 80kph on the slight downhills, 100 of them all 3' apart at 80+ lol. On tyres 18-23mm wide

Quick google reveals fastest top speed at TdF is 81mph or 130kph in 2016 coming down Cote de la Comella. Feck that's quick.

Scary as fck!!!!

Just finished the highlights - it seriously hasn't encouraged me to cycle!! Even at my level (although I do have to get back on a bike just to prove I can!!)

But bloody hell - that was total carnage!! Gutted for the ones that can't continue and the guy that got back on after they put his shoulder back in place, well - Damn!!

I always had these guys down as serious athletes just because of the route. But bloody hell they are hard as nails aren't they :banana-dance: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

I'm wincing just reading that

He's Gerraint Thomas, Welsh fella.

He also finished a 3 week tour after breaking his pelvis in week 1.
It's not completely unknown for riders to break a bone and continue.

All protected by a polystyrene lid and some lycra! Bearing in mind that the professionals didn't have to wear helmets until 2003 and they weren't going any slower then.
