RRTL to do lands end to John o groats for charity?

Post by weeksy »

Every year the guys on PB mag forum, now PB Evo do a long day up, or long day down. It's in aid of cancer charity.

Rules are, bike to only cost £300, although there's talk of upping that limit due to things simply costing more these days from when it first ran as an event.

Start at silly o'clock and do it all in 1 hit. There are manned pitstops etc.

So, how about a forum effort from us?

We'd need 3 things mostly.
1. A motorcycle
2. A rider
3. Money for bike, fuel, hotels, etc.

Clearly we'd like donations later for charity too of course.

So out of the 3 above, we have none. But is there anyone for example who fancies riding it? Or prepping the bike?

Obviously things like tyres etc can be on top of costs of bike I believe, but it needs to be done within the spirit of the event, you can't buy a £5000 bike from a mate for £300 and the sell it back afterwards.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Sounds very silly. Could we nominate a victim/rider......?
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

Lol I think the rider has to be very much up for it, it's the best part of 24 hours. Motorways are very limited, mostly A roads etc I think

I saw the FB pages for that. Looks like an excellent experience, I'd be up for attempting it. :D

FWIW I'd suggest that we try to put together a 2 or 3 bike "team"

Yeah that'd work, assuming we can find bikes.

I think this is the key part- assuming we can, I'd be up for it too

Where can you buy a bike for £300, even ZZR600s are going for twice that at the moment.

A quick look on Gumtree suggests this is the ONLY sub-£300 in England.

Finding the bike may be more of a challenge than the ride.

As i say, i think this will be increased next year... but for example, some are bought at a reduced price by forum members, £500 bike for £300 as long as used for the event etc.

Isn't that cheating, rather defeats the point of having a price limit.
I'm all for the event, but be realistic about what an old shitter costs, a £1000 including prep budget would be more realistic.

Not really cheating, it's only cheating if taking the piss, or if you did it and then sold the bike for £500 profit and kept it for example, if you sold it afterwards and donated the extra £200,300 whatever to the charity, i'm sure it'd fly as fine. It's all about the spirit of the event.

Buy my GSXR1000 for £299.

Then sell it back to me for same price.

From experience of events like this, that sounds like a total nightmare that's going to cause arguments, where does "spirit of the event" stop, and "taking the piss" start?

Especially if there's any competition (no matter how minor) involved.
But, having said that, if you find a bike I'll help and would have bin problem with riding it, so long as it's safe.

I've got some used tyres I can donate.

Well they've been running it for years and it's not yet.
