2021, Tour de France. Who, what, where.

Post by weeksy »

Well, clearly the where is France ;)

Who... well, the main guys for us to watch for the GC are Pogacar (current holder), Roglic and someone from 3-4 of INEOS as yet unknown.

We'll see futile attacks, break aways that stick, heartbreaks as they lose it in the final 50m after being away for 4 hours. We'll see Movistar having the worst team tactics on the planet, we'll see Julian Allaphilippe go crazy on the attacks and we'll see Van der Poel taking at least 1 stage win.

British contenders for glory, well that's Gerraint Thomas and Mark Cavendish, but in very different ways.

Cav has been brought in as a late replacement for Sam Bennett the Irishman who's either injured or a big girls blouse, depending on who you ask on the subject. Cav has 30 wins at the Tour and reaching the end of his career.
Thomas is on great form, but is great, great enough.... we'll have to see.

It's going to be a good one this year. It needs to be as there's been some distinctly average Tours the past few years.

My guess is Caleb Ewan for green with Cav winning at least one stage and Sagan getting a load of top 10's but no wins! I'd love to see Cav equal Merckx's record of 34 wins but can't see it happening.
The Yellow Jersey will be some battle this year, I'm not sure INEOS will get it as there might be too mny leaders and not enough Domestiques, who knows?? I can't see Allaphilippe getting it, as much as I'd like to, but I expect fireworks and attacks on a few stages. Depending how things play out for DQS I wouldn't be surprised to see Kasper Asgreen get a result, he's been flying since winning at Flanders.

Hopefully we'll see Pogacar and Roglic battle it out like last year. They're awesome talents. I imagine they'll be showing thomas a clean set of heels early on in the mountains.

An honourable mention of course for Froome, it's amazing that he's made it back from his injuries and as much as I'd like to see him do well, it ain't gonna happen. Unless, of course, he's just been sandbagging for the past few months and is actually in top form :eh:

I have absolutely zero idea who is who or where it goes before and after Tignes!! (4th July)

But some friends are going to the Cormet de Roselend to watch them go by on the way to Tignes. They are going up there the night before and staying in their camper.

Me and a mate (who arrives in resort on sunday :bblonde: ) plan to join them - either the night before and camp or (more likely) drive up very early in the morning and take pastries and picnic for the day! :banana-dance: :banana-dance:
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!! :bblonde:

I'd say with absolute certainty we'll see him top 3 in the first week, day 1-2 are hilly but then he has chances after that.
Will he win, mmmm maybe. If his leadout works and Morkov gets it right, he's deffo in the battle for the line.

His biggest rivals are Tim Merlier, Sagan, cees Bol, Caleb Ewan

He's beaten all of them in various races this season, but of course only 1 can win each day. But he's right on form and his team are superb at this game.

What can you say? The social media disease strikes again - if you don't want to watch the racing, don't go and spectate - perhaps she should get the bill for all the damaged kit?
Feel so sorry for Froome, he'll be sore tomorrow.
Well done JA, well deserved :obscene-drinkingcheers:

That was absolute chaos!

The world champ jersey was worn proudly and a very typical finish for him. The race was blown apart, but then again, the main contenders are all in their own micro bunch at 8s.

I think VdP today. Not sure why he was off the pace yesterday, but he’ll be there today I think.
That was my prediction from this morning and it seems I was right
Although I thought he'd go early, which he did try but couldn't make it stick.

VdP was in bits in the interview after the race.

Just watched stage one. The spectator who caused the pile up needs shooting at the very least. 🤬

The incredibly experienced racer who's done hundreds of thousands of miles? Won world titles, won more races than you've had motorbikes (67) and riding on closed roads?

Yup, daft bugger was looking at his feet until just before the impact. It's clearly shown in the video.

& I've had more bikes than he's won races.

Arguably he won't have been, he'll have been looking at his power meter which is on top of his stem :)
