Re: IAM advanced video
I watched as far as him getting into the wrong lane at the top of Park Lane and completely to be able to go round Marble Arch to get into Hyde Park as he said he was going to - they had to cut the film at that point

Ah, but he was a member of the IAM and an ADVANCED driver. Lesser mortals must know their place.Horse wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 8:00 pmPreceded, only a few moments earlier, by 'driving demands tolerance"The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:39 pm

Re: IAM advanced video
There was a letter in the IAM magazine, which included the phrase "I was the advanced driver, I had right of way". Neither of which, it seemed, were appreciated by the driver who had cut him up.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 8:33 pmAh, but he was a member of the IAM and an ADVANCED driver. Brilliant. Reminds me of my 13yo self, able to identify all those cars immediately - I can still remember what they were all like inside- smell, instruments etc. Nostalgia.... Driving has changed a bit tho.

It’s classic footage, and there’s even a Daily Mail article about it: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... anged.html

Re: IAM advanced video
Really? And there's me thinking 1963 meant '7 minutes to 8, last night'.
Edit: for the avoidance of doubt, I do know how digital clocks work but didn't want to waste an opportunity to use the old 'when was the last time you had sex?' joke.

Re: IAM advanced video
How simple life must have been back then eh- made me smile in places, and was interesting for me to see the bits of Reading, Theale, and Newbury back in 1963, all of which I know

Re: IAM advanced video
Simple but dangerous . Road deaths in 1966 were nearly 8000 vs around 1800 these days.

Re: IAM advanced video
Ah small world!
I knew Dougie very well- I worked with him at Wally Searle's and Keith Manning's , and spannered for him while he was racing competitively pre-BoB from when I was 11 until I was 17-18 , many very happy (and quite dodgy/scary looking back on them now ) memories
