The beginning of the end . . .

Post by Yambo »

. . . for women's sport.

New Zealand have chosen a transgender woman/man to compete in the 87 kg weightlifting competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It would seem that he/she meets the Olympic criteria for having lowered cholesterol.

If she/he wins gold against natural born women I can see the next Olympics being dominated by transgender athletes in the women's events. It'll be a sort of throwback to when East Germany were doping all of their athletes to gain advantage. The obvious thing for any like minded nation now is to simply field transgender athletes in the women's events. Of course, if every nation does it it'll be a sort of level playing field but women aren't going to get a look in.

Proper women may still win at some sports but all the ones that need strength like weightlifting, pole vaulting, or sprinting they will have no chance. Transgender 'women' may have low testosterone, but a body that grown for 20+ years with high testosterone is going to be a fair bit stronger.

Why worry about details?

Just keep men out of women’s events.

I'm crap at sport, can I join in the disablers group? 'crap' is surely a disability? I was born with it.

It’s not about clothes or whiskers. You “transition” by saying you are now a woman.

Funnily enough, those are the exact words I said to Mrs W when I saw the news tonight - the end of women’s sport.

I don’t have an issue with gender reassignment, but there a few natural lines that shouldn’t be crossed. It’s cheating - pure and simple.

I wonder how other female athletes feel about it?

If we’re going down this path then why don’t we just do away with any segregation and have women competing directly with men?

The trans and other groups pushing this agenda can never be women because they have XY chromosomes whereas women have XX chromosomes (there are relatively rare exceptions to XY and XX). They are perhaps 1-2% of the population and care only about themselves. They are self serving misogynists and anti women (who account for over 50% of the population). Competing with women is dishonest, and blatant cheating.

Because some women want to compete in women only sporting events. Why would you want to prevent that?

Good, but I’ve seen the same suggestion made without sarcasm.

People having equality doesn’t mean you can’t have women’s sports events without male participants.

You cannot change from being a man to being a woman.

It's really that simple.

If, as a bloke, if you change gender you don't become a woman. You become a bodge. If you want to compete, then the only fair way is to compete with other bodge jobs. Competing with women especially in the strength events is just wrong and as irie has said, cheating.

You are probably aware of this simple fact but women are biologically different to men and it's not all about testosterone levels. You know why men don't menstruate? It's because they are not born with every egg that they are going to make available for fertilisation every 28 days or so. Women are born with a full complement of eggs, fallopian tubes and a womb. There's no surgery available on this planet that can create a woman out of a bloke. There are however, mental disorders that allow you to think you're something you're not.

Equal rights and opportunities? Fine but concentrate on the equal bit. A man or someone who has changed some bits to become a bodge job will not be competing in a lot of athletic events on an equal basis. Therefore they should not be given the opportunity.

Are there any biologically lady sportspeople competing in men's sports?

Or do we not care because they would be disadvantaged / crap?

That's an opinion, it's a good job you're retired because you wouldn't get away with it in the workplace, but it's still an opinion and I'm ok with opinions.

I just happen to think that we either offer equal opportunities or we don't, if you want to discriminate against trans people then why can't someone else discriminate against gay people, or black people. It's a slippery slope, you either allow equality, or you don't, calling people mental isn't going to help that.
People are not equal. Men are generally stronger than women, some people are better artists and others are better bullshitters. There is no equality.

However, there are no reasons why people shouldn't have equal opportunities. None at all, but their basic inequalities are going to exclude them from some things naturally. Sport is one such thing - the basic inequalities make it unfair for women to compete against men. They should still have the opportunity to compete but not in an unequal way.

You are simply spouting off about equality and equal opportunities and ignoring the simple, basic facts.

I'm all in favour of equal opportunities for most things in life but a person born as a man who identifies as a woman and has maybe had a bit of bodge work done is being allowed to compete in the Olympic Games against women. That is nothing to do with equal opportunities in the workplace. It's nothing to do with equality per se. There are men's and women's events in sport because even stupid people know that women cannot compete with men equally. I'm sure you know this but if you don't, keep telling us about equality.

Who's your female top tip for World Heavyweight Boxing Champion seeing you think there's no need to differentiate between men and women?

Maybe we should start splitting based on metrics other than gender?

Pigeon chested little 11st snakes like me can compete in the "womens" events. Absolute units that are 125kg have to be in the "mens" events. Take chromosomes out of it.

I dunno what those metrics would actually be by the way.

It's not the same at all.

Black, asian, gay people etc are born that way, they are not choosing to be black or gay, it is built into thier genes, genes that have gone through millions of years of evolution.

Trans people choose to be something they are not, they are bastardising years of human progression and evolution and i don't agree with their views. I am a very open minded person but at the end of the day there has to be a line drawn.

Shakey ground here chief...basic inequalities that give people an advantage? When was the last time a white athlete won the 100m sprint? Forty years ago? Why is that?
Inequality. People are not equal. You're agreeing with me but trying to make an argument with it.

If you think all people are equal, then answer your own question. Why is that?

You're clearly not equal to the task of understanding that we are not equal. We should have equal opportunities, why not? But equality of outcome is totally different and unachievable because, well, we're not all equal.
