Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I was out running in the woods with Mrs. G and the hound in tow the other evening when I came to a bend in the track and decided to wait for Mrs. G to catch up. Suddenly a bloke pops up from behind a tress stump with a look of surprise and embarrassment on his face. My first thought was that I'd caught him having a wilder-shit, but as I walked past I saw he had a back pack, his iPhone out and a bottle and glass artfully arranged on the other side of the tree stump. He nodded an embarrassed hello and I asked him if he was into photography, if only to break the awkwardness. Turns out he's massively into whisky and has an Instagram page, with quite a few followers, dedicated to whisky. This was him photographing his latest purchase, suitably poncified.
Anyhow, being partial to the Scottish fighting sauce myself, we started comparing notes on whiskies, preferred regions in Scotland (I'm an Islay man, him more lowlands) Must have stood chatting for 15 minutes or more before bidding each other goodbye.
Never did get his Insta account as I suspect it could be quite interesting.

Neither. Stood waiting, with a bored expression, for two whisky geeks to stop yapping.

Yeah, but dogging bankers are all takers, never givers.

I will have nothing bad said against bankers!
I have just had an e-mail from one bank telling me that, as from today, the interest rate is going up. Not a lot, but any increase is welcome. What is surprising (and very welcome) is that they have put the rate up for existing customers, not just to attract new ones.

It'll be a mistake. Expect a letter advising as much in the next few days.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 3:30 pmI will have nothing bad said against bankers!

Oh, and they'll charge you for that letter.

I can see my villa from the ferry and giggling insideYorick wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 9:44 am Going home. Just spent 9 days riding round Spain and can't wait to get home.
It was ok with decent roads but dull scenery. Not once did I stop to take a photo.
Even on south coast with my pals, it was just meh. They love it, but just a bit dull to me.
Everytime I get off the plane or ferry , I'm glad to be home.
Sometimes holidays are a treat, but the treat for me is getting home. I'm in the best place in the world and so happy.

I supped a bottle of Bains Cape Mountain the other day. It's quite affordable and actually quite quaffable.

That made me laugh! Bain's is variation of my surname as well, so I'll be sure to give that drink a try.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 8:10 pm I supped a bottle of Bains Cape Mountain the other day. It's quite affordable and actually quite quaffable.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
The small palm trees in my garden are flowering.
The big one has flowered quite a few times, but the flowers are about 2nd floor window level and don't draw much attention. The little trees are about 1.5m tall and have never flowered before - it didn't even occur to me that they might!
They've got what I can only describe as Christmas Trees sticking out of them now, each one is probably 25% the size of the mother plant and covered in hundreds and hundreds of tiny white flowers. Very very strong fragrance too, fortunately it smells pretty tropical and not of rotting meat or something I've got my windows open and I can clearly smell it in my house. I also counted at least 4 different types of bee eating said flowers.

Just sent an email to the Dunlop tyre doctor about tyre pressures for my Sportsmart TTs.
Took them 7 minutes to reply. Made me smile

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Just had my first jab
I think I need both before Bill Gates gets to operate me by remote control but for now he can monitor my every move, I'm sure he'll be fascinated to see me in Lidl shortly !!
A guy on the campsite last week professing how if you get the jab, you'll be dead in five years.... he did have to take his fag out of his mouth to make the statement though

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Just over a week ago I got an email from my previous employer, telling me my replacement had left and they weren't sure what state the IT systems were in, could I check and they'd pay me for my time. I told them I'd look as a favour, but wouldn't take a penny for doing it.
So last weekend I VPN'ed in and spent two and a half hours doing a quick audit and writing a very simple report... basically saying nothings changed since I left, it's still mostly all good, you've probably got a few weeks before it'll need anything, etc...
This morning £300 of Love2Shop vouchers turned up in the post.

He's a whisky guy, most Dad's are i think!, but he's never had South African stuff so I thought this would be a bit of fun.
