M.P.G. ????

Post by Yorick »

My previous GSXR1000s always did 40 mpg when touring. 30 being thrashed on Sundays and around 17 mpg on track.

This new one has a fancy mpg thingy which showed 40 ish for 3 days properly thrashing round the mountain twisties.
I took it with a pinch of unleaded salt.

But on a gentle motorway run at constant indicated 75, the computer was showing 57 mpg.
Nah.

So when I filled up today, I cruised at 75 for 140 miles then filled up.
Got the electric adding up machine and it said 56mpg.
Wow. That's not bad and the puter is accurate so the 40s thrashing seem OK. Now.

Ya don't buy a GSXR1000 for economy, but to this Yorkshireman, every little helps :banana-dance:

I think modern engines run super lean. The 690 will easily do 60mpg even when trashing it.

My SuperDuke GT will generally do mid-50s on a run and 60mpg if you never go over 70. Pretty impressive for a 1300cc twin with 170+ bhp. Plus, with a 23l tank, that equals a 300-mile range!

I once got 60mpg out of an old CBR1000F on a long run, K12 does about 40 on a run, but the fairing is small and I'm big.

Aye, there is no doubt most current EU4 onwards bikes are reasonable on fuel now, with one notable exception being MT10..

The humble KTM790 on the other hand, phenomenal frugality for the performance- on my last long road trip on it, I was with 3 mates, all on 1000s (S1000R, 2016 ZX10R and MT10 )- 2 of them are decent speed ex-Bemsee racers so the 790 was thrashed to within an inch of it's life, but always right up in the front 2 except on the silly really long straight bits, and this was the overall average for the trip, which I found genuinely astounding considering how hard it was ridden for a lot of the time

- I'd buy another one too, or more likely an 890R ( am just building up the courage currently  )

When I had my Zed run on the dyno,it was running weak all through the rev range apart from the very top, plus that horrid fuel cutoff on a dead throttle must help mpg too.

My CB500 is often around 80 mpg. I have seen figures as high as 140 mpg.

OTOH I am not unduly impressed. My car is a 2.5 V6 hybrid, and can often get 50+ mpg on a run, with 70+ occasionally.

My Le Mans is poor. It did get 32mpg but I corrected the jetting from what the PO had in and balanced the carbs and now get 38 to 42. I've been keeping a Excel spread sheet for the last 3 years to record it all. I take a photo of the pump and mileometer at each fill up.

Up in northern Spain, the posh stuff was €1.50.

Only €1.35 here in south, cheapo is €1.29.

I started off when I ran out of petrol after going onto reserve and had to push it for over a mile to the nearest petrol staion. Not having a trip I wanted an accurate measure of the milege and fuel going in and therefore work out any improvements from the changes I made. I have also diconnected the accelerator pumps, but it may be time to re connect them and do some more measurments, although acceleration on a 44 year old Le Mans is relative.

I always put Shell V Max in, when I have put a tank of supermarket cheap fuel in there is a drop in mpg of a couple of miles.

On the Bonneville "miles per gallon" refers to how many miles I can do before a gallon of fuel has leaked out the exhaust pipes.

NC700X is returning me 72mpg overall, which, is pretty extraordinary for such a high powered bike. 8-)
